Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"Acceleration takes of like a rocket, makes passing on short distances quick. I drive with the ECO on all the time."

Anonymous, AR (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Jerky shifting at low speeds. Downshift point hard to find and requires too much accelerator pedal pressure. Car often downshifts to far lower gear than I want. In order to work around this, I usually drive in sports mode which engages next lower gear more readily rather than downshifting too far. ."

Anonymous, VA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"I cant believe the turning radius! Of course, any vehicle beats my '70 VW bug, but I think this has a shorter t.r. than any small Honda or other car that I've owned! And it certainly accelerates faster than any 6 or 8 cyl. car that I've owned---I've never owned a "fast" car but this is a large, heavy vehicle and has lots of pep when I need it!"

PAUL S., CA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Great"

Anonymous, FL (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Safety Features"

Ralph B., CT (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Smooth operation, adequate if not spirited acceleration"

Daniel J., MA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"The automatic transmission is a little quicker to downshift on acceleration than I'd like. When in cruise control, the automatic controller uses downshifting more than I'd like to prevent coasting above the speed setpoint."

Richard H., TN (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Rapid acceleration from a stop or lower speed is marginal and only slightly better in sport mode. Excellent at higher highway speeds. Passing gear is only marginal."

Walter Q., NH (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"We drove this car cross country and found it accelerated very well and handled superbly."

Jacqueline A., FL (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"plenty of power when you need it. quick response to your steering needs. handles very well when going slow or at highway speeds."

Paul W., WA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"When accelerating, the engine works hard but overall handling is good. The car reacts smoothly."

Antonio T., NV (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Smooth accceleration, excellent handling"

James L., PA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"It is ok ,just like most new autombiles"

Barry B., ON (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"good acceleration and good towing capacity. Love having the 6 cylinder."

Anonymous, FL (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

Laurinda F., CO (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"autnimouse braking"

Rocky G., CO (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Smooth acceleration and good control of gas pedal sensitivity."

Mike F., VA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Acceleration is very sluggish sometimes, to the point of being dangerous."

Gerald H., MD (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Does everything well. Flawless"

Anonymous, NV (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"The throttle based traction control system is too aggressive and essentially stalls the engine if traction is exceeded ever so slightly. I believe it is dangerous, especially if you need to pull out into traffic quickly. In addition, the throttle and transmission calibration are awful. You can't feather the throttle enough to keep from having poor shift quality."

Mary W., MI (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"The pick up from start is amazing. Sometimes I scare myself when stepping on the accelerator, primarily while making a corner, etc. I love the pick-up at all times. The car is very responsive and has plenty of power."

Vincent M., NC (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"I love the ease of handling of my Sante Fe, It has great acceleration"

Renee W., MI (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Navigation system is bad two year old system when I bought car. Every thing else was great."

"This car handles great and the acceleration is very good."

Anonymous, WI (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"accelerates well, pedal feels good, smart cruise works great"

Anonymous, NY (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"actually handles very well for an otherwise softly suspended vehicle, body motions are well controlled, body roll is not excessive unless your're expecting sports car performance, the V6 engine has very good torque off the line and gets you up to highway speed effortlessly"

Thomas B., MA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Quick response to acceleration. Good road feel thru steering wheel."

Jerry F., MD (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Acceleration is very good as is the handling"

M C., NC (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"2017 Santa Fe is a very comfortable to drive on long trips. Great acceleration getting on the highway and blind spot monitoring is a great feature for lane changing."

Philip R., NY (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Acceleration and handling are superb. The V6 is quiet, powerful, and smooth, which is far better than some louder V6s and jumpier turbo V4s that I’ve driven on other cars."

Jeff W., MI (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Quick, stable, solid"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Need to remember to click drive mode to change from Eco to Sport when you need the power"

Anonymous, UT (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"love the smart cruise control. also the drives very well in all conditions"

Weiss M., CT (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Very smooth and comfortable ride."

Ruben S., TX (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Prefer the Sport mode as the steering is much crisper than the eco or standard mode. Very good 'tight' turning radius for such a large AWD SUV. The 3rd row back seats do not have head rests and the rear heating/air conditioning controls should be located by the 2nd row seats not the third rowseats."

D D., BC (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"If tires (any 4) hit a small pothole or bump when accelerating from a complete stop, the traction control engages, causing acceleration to delay considerably. This has caused me issues when trying to accelerate and merge/get ahead of oncoming traffic."

Douglas W., CO (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"has multiple modes of drive so you can choose how you want to drive/feel."

Marvin S., NY (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"good pick up an go"

Anonymous, MA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"drives more like a sports car than an suv"

Anonymous, OK (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"I wish I could adjust the seat lower and that it was a little less deep, from front to back. I am short and the seat presses against my leg and is not quite as adjustable as I need."

Anonymous, AK (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Best seats of any car I have owned."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Compressed interior. Reduced leg room."

Reynaldo T., FL (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Very poor , uncomfortable and hard"

Barry B., ON (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"The seats have high, hard side seat bolsters, which taper severely from front to back, and put pressure on the head of my femur, pinching the nerves running down my leg and making both legs numb after 30 minutes of driving. Did not notice this during test drives. I really is uncomfortable."

William A., WA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"The Santa Fe is quiet inside, the seats are comfortable, the car handles well, ride is nice"

John W., PA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Has interior quality of a much more expensive SUV. Extra storage space & 2 more bucket seats makes this a great SUV for the money. We have bought 4 Hyundais & been very pleased in all categories- great quality."

Anonymous, IL (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Seats are not as comfortable as I originally thought they would be for long trips. Highway/interstate Road noise is much louder than hoped for. I did not do a test drive on a highway/interstate and wish I had."

Michael E., GA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"WE have the seats that are power for both driver and passenger. makes for a very comfortable experience."

Jacqueline A., FL (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"tHE SEATS ARE NOT GOOD FOR TALL PEOPLE IN FRONT AS THE HEAD RESTS LEAN TOO FAR FORWARD..SEVERAL OF THE TALL PASSENGERS ARE UNCOMFORTABLE.SO NOW WE HAVE TO USE A SPECIAL PORTABLE SEAT SUPPORT TO BE AT ALL COMFORTABLE AND THE HEAD RESTS CANNOT BE REMOVED OR TURNED AROUND."

Gerald H., CO (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Very quiet, smooth ride. Engine is so quiet it is hard to hear it even with the windows open. So little air turbulence noise when moving that conversation is easy. Turning corners doesn't seem to fling you to the side."

Anonymous, OH (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"A little noisier than I expected, but not overwhelming."

Mike F., VA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Seats are somewhat hard, the engine sounds good, and the ride is very comfortable."

Antonio T., NV (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Very comfortable seat, very smooth ride, excellent handling on turns and curves"

Jose A., NJ (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Good acceleration, front seat cooling has too much delay before I feel it, keyless system works nice, 3rd row seating works nice, 2nd row bucket seats nice,"

Anonymous, NY (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"It is very noisy. You think you have a window open all the time"

Joel H., FL (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Seats are too small"

Anonymous, OK (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"The car is very quiet. The climate control system's fan can be noisy and drown out music or conversation when it is working hard to cool or heat the car. The driver's seat is comfy with the leather and lumbar support. The ride is a bit mushy and with a full load, it doesn't take much to bottom out the rear suspension."

Tim S., UT (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Very comfortable and quiet ride."

Anonymous, NY (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"I wish the seats were a little more plush and bigger, it is not meant for larger people. Good commuter car for a women, plenty of space for groceries and my mobil office."

Anonymous, NY (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Seating is very comfortable. They are easy to adjust. Interior is quiet when the windows are up. Ride is very smooth."

Anonymous, FL (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"my left knee, while resting against the door molding, causes irritation. it would be nice if the door molding didn't protrude."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Ride could be more comfortable"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"passenger seat is to low, my wife hates it and its also very hard and uncomfortable. the power seat on drivers side doesn't adjust enough for me to get comfortable. road noise is ti much i think, ride is harsh at times but i think mainly due to type of tires, the the skinny low profile kind, i will not replace with same type if possible."

Jim M., AZ (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"HEAD RESTS CANNOT BE ADJUSTED OR REMOVED"

Gerald H., CO (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"comfortable ride, hauling item, fold down rear seats"

Orson W., UT (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"The cabin is fairly quiet. We rented an Equinox for a trip and it was considerably louder. Also, we find the seats to be more comfortable than many other vehicles we have driven."

Chris H., OH (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"All leather, very comfortable seating Little noise Comfortable ride"

Robin M., CA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"It's my car of choice for road trips - it's quiet, has excellent drivers aids, get very good fuel economy for it's type, capable of towing our outboard, enormous cargo capacity, rolls down the road with authority, handles well, seats are supportive"

Thomas B., MA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Although this car was not even one year old the sunroof had to be completely replaced because of a major rattle."

Anonymous, ON (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Seats are a bit firm esp the raised sidesride is goodas is ride"

M C., NC (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"The ride could be a little more car-like."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Seats comfortable. Pickup is good. Handles nicely. Quiet on highways."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Seats are too firm for my prefference"

Anonymous, NC (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"This model has three driving modes economy - standard and sport . You select by pushing a button. However when you turn the engine off the system defaults to standard and if you want economy or sport you have to reset. Love the HID lights that turn with you when cornering. The ride is very quite with no engine noise unless under heavy acceleration for passing etc."

D D., BC (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Noisy on the highway (road noise). Infinity speakers not as good as Bose, and no wi-fi hotspot. Overall though, the car is a very good value bc of all the safety features for the price."

Anonymous, MI (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"This vehicle is very comfortable to drive. There is very little noise and the visibility is excellent. I do feel that the transmission shifts too often while in cruise control. When traveling at 70 mph, the transmission will down shift on a very slight incline."

Vincent M., NC (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"The seats are uncomfortable and too thin."

Karen D., FL (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"The Santa Fe feels like a luxury vehicle. The road noise is surprisingly low and it drives very smooth."

Anonymous, CO (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Seats and ride are great but it has a bit more road noise than we would like."

Anonymous, TX (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"there is to much road noise for me. i downsized from a chevy avalanche and that truck was much quieter than this car. i expected some loss in comfort but the noise is a little to much for me."

Jim M., AZ (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Excellent value for the price."

"THE TOYOTA HIGHLANDER WAS CONSIDERED ON PURCHASE OF THE SANTA FE AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER CHOICE BASED ON THE SEAT COMFORT IN FRONT AND THE RESALE OR VALUE $ RETENTION FACTORS."

Gerald H., CO (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Reasonable purchase price for latest safety and convenience features"

Robert M., NY (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"We were looking about both the Sorento and the Santa Fe, and we felt that for the price and options, the Santa Fe was a better deal. I am starting to look at new cars (as we want to get another one) and I am having a hard time finding all the features I would get with a Hyundai that for a competitive price from other brands."

Chris H., OH (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"I think the quality of this vehicle is excellent. All of the features work very well and there has been NO problems with any of them. The seats are comfortable and the load capability, with all seats down is excellent. I don't like the idea that I had to buy a third row seat when not necessary. I didn't want it and don't need it. I feel there could have been more storage if it were not there."

Vincent M., NC (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"THE HIGHLANDER WOULD HAVE RETAINED ITS VALUE BETTER"

Gerald H., CO (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Great value - we looked at the Audi Q7 and liked the look of the Hyundai better and it was half the price, even though fully loaded."

Craig M., CA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Excellent --just a very nice car. Never a problem. Cost to performance is the best"

Anonymous, NV (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

James M., LA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"you get many options for the money. the car is loaded and still 10K less than the same options on another similar cars"

Weiss M., CT (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"I got every feature I had in my previous BMW 5 series (with the exception of massaging seats) for $20,000 less cost"

"The Santa Fe MSRP was $45,000, I paid $38,000 for it. I have an excellent dealer"

John W., PA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"great vehicle for the purchase price. excellent warranty. plenty of room and cargo space. instrument panel is user friendly."

Paul W., WA (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"In retrospect, the vehicle seems overpriced."

Gerald H., MD (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"The car comes with many high end features including 360 camera, most items are power. The feature set would be several thousand dollars more in most of the same class cars"

James B., FL (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Get more value than a Toyota highlander"

Anonymous, NC (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Seemed to me to be over-priced."

Anonymous, NC (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

Anonymous, SC (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Love the 360 degree camera"

Richard B., AZ (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"I think the car is over priced in my area because there is no other dealers around, they had good deals on the sport because they had to many but it was just to small for me. I have my own mechanic and traveled out of my area to purchase car they should all come with auto start not one you have to pay for each year, that is a rip off by Hyundai."

Anonymous, NY (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"You get a lot of “bells and whistles‿ for the money compared to other makes of similar vehicles"

Anonymous, OR (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"I looked at the Toyota Highlander similarly equipped would have been 8000.00 dollars more to buy."

Philip R., NY (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Great values, loads of features for the price, especially safety features, and camera system is great."

Ruben S., TX (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

Anonymous, NC (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Perfect. Love it. Happy with purchase."

Robert H., FL (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"The ergonomics of this car's controls are excellent. This vehicle has blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, smart cruise control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, dynamic bending headlights, and high beam assist all for only $2000 more than my 2015 which only has blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert. My brother in laws 2017 Acura MDX has almost as much safety gear for $15,000 more than the Santa Fe."

Tom H., AZ (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"I am surprised, this Santa Fe had more options than my 2016 Acura TLX. Good value for the money."

Anonymous, TX (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)

"Great warranty, smooth ride, many options without ones we don't really need, safety features"

Anonymous, RI (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe)
