What Owners Say
""I was well aware of possible connecting rod bearing failure and was always alert to symptoms of impending failure. The only problem I had was that it burned about a quart of oil every 500 miles. Gas mileage was fine. Despite having knock sensor installed as part of recall it did not alert me to impending failure and seemed to be running fine. At 99,000 miles While traveling on highway I needed to briefly accelerate hard and the engine stalled without warning. It restarted but continued to stall while traveling at low speed on highway. I got it into my driveway and it died. Had it owed to Hyundai dealer. They wanted to see receipts of ten years of oil changes, which I didnt have. I presented two years of receipts indicating the use of synthetic oil. That wasnt sufficient and I was told theyd examine the inner valve cover for signs of sludge build up which they said was a sign of lack of maintenance. They found none and the manufacturer agreed to replace the engine with a rebuilt engine. Ive since used the vehicle for 5000 miles without problems although I needed to replace an engine mount afterward and wish they could have caught that during the engine replacement. Dealer took about a month to get authorization to install rebuilt engine which was an unacceptable amount of time. The engine took about 3 says to install after authorization. Overall bad experience as I had to beg Hyundai to honor their warranty.""

Anonymous, NY (2013 Hyundai Sonata Limited 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"It started with the check engine light flashing. The car started to hesitate and would not accelerate up a hill. Looked up the flashing light cause and it said to have the car towed as soon as possible. Took it right to the dealer and turns out there was a known issue. We were given a new engine with a new 100K warranty."
Anonymous, PA (2013 Hyundai Sonata GLS 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"Car had class action lawsuit that had metal shavings go into engine, locking the entire engine which required an entire engine replacement through Hyundai. Hyundai refused to reimburse me for car rental and would not provide loaner car. Car took approximately 2-3 weeks to replace engine. Also, when engine failed I was driving on the highway and car completely shut down which was extremely dangerous"
Anonymous, FL (2013 Hyundai Sonata Unsure Unsure)"Engine replaced under extended warranty"
Anonymous, CT (2013 Hyundai Sonata GLS 2.4-L 4 Cyl)""The engine literally stranded me. It had to be replaced. Fortunately, I had purchased an extended warranty. I have a new engine now but was out of commission for months before getting my car back as I had to provide proofs to qualify for the warranty engine replacement. To their credit, I got a new engine and not a rebuilt one.""
