Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

"The calipers grab in the rust"

Eric L., QC (2010 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"began several years ago in rural Georgia. Had to get serviced by a local shop, which was a throwback to 1980's. Problem recurred quickly; took to the dealership. after a VERY expensive bill, the problem recurrrd within six months, Unfortunately, my dealer closed. A local (to me) service station fixed it. But my dashboard lights are all on again, so i think it's back again."

Body Integrity

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, loose or cracked seals and/or weather-stripping, air and water leaks.

What Owners Say

Air or water leaks

"about 6 months after the windshield was replaced the car showed wetness on the passenger side floor, but this was after the cabin air filter was replaced. We took it into the dealer and they said it was the windshield. Windshield was replaced again. Leak continued. Dealer then said it was the roof drain, replaced parts in drain, leak got worse, said it was the windshield, replaced windshield and no improvement. Took car to local mechanic after blower stopped working that works on my 2004 Sienna. He diagnosed problem in ten minutes. Outside area of cabin air filter compartment was out of alignment. 90% of the leak stopped. Local mechanic, found a slit in the windshield boot, windshield company fixed the final leak. Dealer mechanics stink, they caused us time, money and aggravation."

"It is basically useless unless I want to do interstate driving with no other cars."

Anonymous, MD (2010 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)
Gauges

"The backlight for the entire dash display has failed, so the backlight is either full on or fully dimmed. Despite the obviousness of the problem, the dealer is unable to even see the problem. It really isn't that it's hard to see - there is no adjustment until full on; any other setting is fully dim."

M P., CA (2010 Infiniti G Journey 3.7-L V6)
Headlights

"The ballast failed on one headlight, but I was told the ballast cannot be replaced on this vehicle without also replacing the headlight, which significantly increased the cost of repair."

Thomas D., TX (2010 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"One of my headlights went out. It was still under warranty so was replaced under warranty"

Anonymous, TX (2010 Infiniti G Base 3.7-L V6)

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"The Bluetooth connecting to my iPhone cuts in and out frequently, can be annoying while streaming music from your phone or while play lists cuts in and out"

Bryant I., WA (2010 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"When I have a iPhone plugged into the car for charging or audio playback, the system intermittently (about once every 2 weeks) makes a popping sound, the screen becomes unreadable. I have to shut off and restart the car to get the system working again. The problem appears to be related to a power surge in the system as the lightning cable will not work in any charger after one of these events"

Anonymous, CT (2010 Infiniti G Journey 3.7-L V6)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"The Infiniti built-in GPS unit is generally excellent, but it does have some quirky software issues. If you type in the name of the city in the wrong order, it responds with No data for this area. But if you type in the street name first and then the city, then there is no problem. If I search for a street with a compound name, such as Saint James, it will not recognize St James, or St-James, or Saint-James or any other variation. In fact, a common street name in different cities is listed with different spellings in each cities, but you must enter the name exactly how it was listed in the city you are searching for or it cannot find it. The software needs to be more versatile. Voice recognition is absolutely terrible, whereas all new smart phones have vastly superior abilities in speech recognition."

Harold F., QC (2010 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"The phone call quality sounded worse than 1950’s radio and people couldn’t understand what I was saying. The voice commands also could not understand me or any of the dealer mechanics. This issue was fixed over the course of 12 days and was covered by the dealer because I had purchased the car 10 days earlier. The software in the radio was updated which fixed all the previously listen issues."

Anonymous, NY (2010 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"Phone system does not pair correctly to iPhone 4. Dealer could not repair, telling me Infinity software not available. Resulting in phone contacts not displaying on Dashboard, and requiring me to look at my iPhone to make a call. This is Unsafe"

Anonymous, GA (2010 Infiniti G Journey 3.7-L V6)
Radio

"Satellite radio works poorly. Reception keeps cutting out. Can't make it through a single song without having it cut out several times. Took back to dealer to fix and they say it works normally. I have not seen this happen in another vehicle unless it went through a tunnel. Looking to have aftermarket antenna put in"

Michael F., MD (2010 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, clutch replacement.

What Owners Say

Clutch replacement

"The clutch wore out and had to be completely replaced. All clutch fluid leaked out and it stopped working completely."

Anonymous, GA (2010 Infiniti G Sport 3.7-L V6)
Transmission rebuild or replacement

"5th gear on Manual Trans started grinding at only 60K miles. Dealership replaced entire clutch and transmission under warranty."

V C., VA (2010 Infiniti G Sport 3.7-L V6)

"It would grind every time I shifted into 5th gear. The dealership replaced the entire clutch and transmission. Luckily it was still under the extended warranty I had purchased."

V C., VA (2010 Infiniti G Sport 3.7-L V6)

"Transmission had to be rebuilt in order to access the clutch."

Anonymous, GA (2010 Infiniti G Sport 3.7-L V6)

"A design failure (I think) allowed transmission cooling fluid to enter trans mission case, dilute trans fluid, and ruined r Transmission. No hoses failed, but a some type of valve allowed the coolant into the trans. Trans/coolant together drained from some leak. Infiniti replacement came with bad transfer gearing inside clutch assembly. Replaced within ~3 months. Entire 1-piece transmission-clutch-transfer unit, replaced this time at Infiniti’s cost."

Kenneth V., MD (2010 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

Transmission Minor

Gear selector or linkage, leaks, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission.

What Owners Say

Hydraulics (clutch master or slave cylinder)

Anonymous, VA (2010 Infiniti G Sport 3.7-L V6)
Rough shifting

"When the car is cold, when you take off from any start, there is a delay when the gas pedal is pressed to when the transmission kicks in; the result is a hard grab and jerk of the car"

William C., TN (2010 Infiniti G Base 3.7-L V6)

"problem caused by dealer flushing clutch hydraualics-see previous discussion"

Anonymous, VA (2010 Infiniti G Sport 3.7-L V6)
Transmission computer

"The car would shift rough between 3rd and 4th gear and 4th and 5th gear due to shift flare. The car also shifted rough while driving at a low speed there was a minor shutter between 0-10mph. The issue was addressed through a transmission software upgrade ITB-075a which costed $145.00. The car does shift a little slower than it used to but it ultimately shifts better."

Anonymous, NY (2010 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"The 2-3 shift and 3-4 shift were not always smooth. The dealer transmission computer update cured the problem"

Jim C., VA (2010 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

What Owners Say

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

"The dark blue paint started to fade after several years of being parked outdoors in Florida sunshine. Perhaps all cars do that (after 8 years), but it was a noticeable problem."

Harold F., QC (2010 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"Paint is soft and scratches very easily"

Anonymous, TX (2010 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)
