Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Anonymous, GA (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"Paint on front chipping, eaten away by bugs as told by the dealership. Tire rims paint about 25% gone. Paint on this car is horrible"

Anonymous, MO (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"This is a weird one . . the paint on our rims is peeling off. You see chunks of paint peeling form the rims in various areas. Infiniti replaced a couple of them as goodwill, but this is poor manufacturing. Something was not done properly with the application of the coating on the rims, if 3 of them are peeling, and 1 isn't. Very disappointing to see these sorts of issues in such a young car, and one that is holds so much promise as a high end SUV. I guarantee a BMW or Audi or Mercedes won'"

"Very cheap trim..snow melt causes rust and stains that can not be fixed"

Anonymous, CO (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"Rear glass roof window developed severe rust and corrosion on the rear end. Dealer initially claimed that this problem was out of warranty even though the sticker stated 7-year rust proof warranty. We struggled with the dealer but when I wrote a letter to the Nissan CEO in Japan they agreed to repair the problem. After the repair was made we sold the car and bought a BMW X5."

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Backup or other camera/sensors

"The entire dashboard electrics have gone out twice (includes the radar blind spot warnings etc)"

Jan B., MD (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"Acts up during cold weather. Sometimes failing to turn on at all when the car is started (i.e., radar stays deactivated). Alternatively, starts beeping for no reason. Most often during light snow or rain, sometimes on a cold clear day"

Anonymous, QC (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"My car was rear-ended in a serious accident, and I decided to have Infiniti's body shop repair it. They did a great job - except apparently they screwed up all of the sensors. I found that some were working (lane change, blind side warning) and the cameras, but the cameras weren't coming online automatically when I got close to something in the front or the rear. It turns out that Infiniti repair shop found that the body shop messed up the connections for the sensors (not the cameras), and I had to bring the car in TWICE to get them fixed properly. The person who hit me's insurance company paid a lot because I chose Infiniti as a body shop. To me, they should know even better than a typical body shop how to attach the sensors when they put on new fenders and parts."

M S., CT (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)
Display screen goes blank

"The display went blank on August 12, 2020. You couldn't tell the mileage, gas tank or anything else. Took to the Infiniti Dealership on Aug. 12 and just got it back on Aug. 14. The system had to have a hard reboot. They also, fixed another recall."

Anonymous, (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"Entire display behind steering wheel, including speedometer, tach, fuel gauge, etc. stopped working one day"

Scott S., PA (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"One day the dashboard stopped functioning. The dealership reset the computer and the problem was fixed, that happened two weeks ago"

Anonymous, CA (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)
External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"USB port broken - cannot recharge or access phone"

Anonymous, CT (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"had to replace gps twice"

William K., CT (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"THE WORST nav system EVER. Not intuitive. Cannot program while moving, driver OR passenger. Voice command makes you look at the screen longer for prompts than if you were to plug address in yourself. Voice prompt system never works correctly or understands. Infuriates driver ALWAYS. Currently use a 2012 Garmin with better results."

Anonymous, OH (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"Bluetooth pairing with phone goes on and off while phone should be paired and operating"

Thomas S., NC (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

Anonymous, IL (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

Robert P., AB (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"When answering the phone the connection becomes goobled and difficult to understand the caller."

Joseph J., FL (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"Ongoing for 2 years an intermittent Bluetooth connection where the other end of the conversation cuts out"

Anonymous, TX (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)
Steering wheel controls

"Related to the display issue. Steering wheel controls stopped working at the same time"

Scott S., PA (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)
Voice control commands

"Worthless system. Never finds address, business correctly. Driver must spend long amounts of time staring at screen if braving the voice control commands. Whoever designed the system should be taken out and slapped daily for their failure."

Anonymous, OH (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"AC would cut off after approximately 10 minutes of driving and would not come back on until the vehicle was turned off and allowed to sit for at least an hour or two"

Anonymous, NJ (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"AC went out on a vacation in Florida--repair was under warranty, but only at an Infiniti dealer (local Nissan dealer could not do it). Had to drive over an hour to get the repair and was without the vehicle for two days. That was miserable and frustrating."

Anonymous, FL (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"Car was less than 1 yr old and we were getting no cold air. It was fixed the first time - they claimed it was a refrigerant leak. It happened again shortly after and they replaced the condenser and hoses. Fixed but car was out of service for a week"

Anonymous, NY (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"Needed a new compressor"

Anonymous, TX (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"Compressor died and had to be replaced. Cost $1,000"

Robert R., FL (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"It tuned out the compressor was fine but the clutch for the compressor was not. The problem is it is sold as one unit. You cannot buy the clutch separately for the compressor as it is one unit. It cost $884 to get it repaired. It is now guaranteed for as long as I own it (compressor)."

Jerry W., SC (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)
Blower (fan) motor

"Fan starts off working but after a few minutes will not blow from the floor vents so feet cold in winter"

Anonymous, NJ (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)
Refrigerant leaks

"AC stopped working. There were rusted out refrigerant lines that had to be replaced and the coolant recharged."

Anonymous, MN (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"The high pressure tubing to the rear ac sprung a leak. The corrosion occurred at a support point. This is a flaw in the design as the support bracket is steel and the pipe is aluminum. The pipe is over 400 to purchase and I replaced it myself."

Anonymous, AB (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"Ac piping rusted out. Had to be replaced"

Anonymous, NJ (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"A/C stopped working, it was determined the clamps holding the hose going from the high pressure side to the low side (orifice tube) had broken and would not hold refrigerant"

Anonymous, FL (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"The rear coolant loop developed pinholes causing the need to replace the tubing. I've been told this a known problem and is not covered by the Infiniti warranty. Fortunately I had bought a different warranty which covered a large part of the cost. Given that is a known issue, why isn't it covered by a recall?"

Anonymous, FL (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"Entire gauge panel (speedometer, fuel gauge, etc., steering wheel controls, etc.) completely stopped working. The screen on gauge was 100% dark. Dealer had to reconnect a loose wire in the dashboard"

Thomas P., FL (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"At 26000 miles, the transmission valve was replaced due to transmission catching between 20-30 mph. It did not solve the problem. Next step will be to replace the transmission"

"Trans quit working while driving. Car quit moving"

Scott L., AZ (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"Car just move after stopping at a light. CVT failed. It's a known issue that Nissan/Infiniti had a class action lawsuit against but our vehicle was over 100000 miles and therefore no longer subject to the warranties originally purchased nor the mitigations from the lawsuit."

Anonymous, FL (2013 Infiniti JX None 3.5-L V6)

"The failed transmission was very surprising given the fact that the vehicle was not that old and had fairly low mileage. Apparently, it was a known problem but thank goodness we had full Infiniti warranty coverage. We found out later that Infiniti/Nissan would have covered the cost without a warranty."

I’ve been back to dealership twice to repair. They replaced the OCS, but a passenger triggered the warning light again. I have an appointment next week to hopefully fix it for good."

Engine Major

Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbo or supercharger, timing chain or timing belt.

What Owners Say

Engine rebuild or replacement

"My car had several warning lights so I scheduled service. Before I could bring it in, it began bucking and making terrible noises. When I brought it in, they asked my permission to take apart the engine. Upon taking it apart, they found significant damage related to the oil - many things wrong that I don't understand. I had to provide records that I'd regularly serviced the car. Infiniti found that the dealer I'd purchased the car from should have never sold it as certified pre-owned, that it was a lemon with no maintenance records. I don't understand how something like that could pass their 100+ point inspection on the many times I've had it serviced. In addition, the phone bluetooth/speaker/music player has never worked except for one time when they replaced the unit with one from a new car (which then later was replaced with a new factory unit because it ate a DVD). Infiniti replaced the engine for free, but has not solved the other problems. I believe the entire car is a lemon but I have no recourse other than to keep bringing it in for service. Infiniti corporate never reached out to me, nor did I receive an apology. The repairing dealer implied that the new engine was resolution enough for a bad sale. I'm furious but I don't know what to do."
