Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Satisfaction Owner Satisfaction To learn about satisfaction, CR has collected survey data from our annual survey on more than half a million vehicles. Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

The Infiniti Q50 was intended to replace the G37 in the brand's lineup. But, unfortunately, it has taken a step back from its excellent predecessor.

The Q50 is quick and relatively roomy, but its underwhelming driving experience strips the car of much of its sporty legacy. The Q is fairly nimble, with good turn-in response and well-contained body lean. But it's let down by vague steering. Overall, the Q50 has lost the fun-to-drive agility that was a G37 hallmark. We also tried the much hyped direct active steering option, but we found that it feels artificial and non-linear.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2015 Infiniti Q50 owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Display screen difficult to see

"Display eztremely difficult to use. Very poorly designed"

Paul G., CA (2015 Infiniti Q50 Premium 3.7-L V6)

"Can't see screens, including backup view, when the sun is shining"

Anonymous, MN (2015 Infiniti Q50 Premium 3.7-L V6)
Display screen freezes up

"Infiniti electronics SUCK. I have a friend that has the crossover SUV and has the same issues as I've had where the system freeze and loses bluetooth connections. The climate system, sometimes freezes, the backup camera sometimes stays on while driving, and I've literally had to stop and turn off the car to reboot the system multiple times."

Paul D., CO (2015 Infiniti Q50 Premium 3.7-L V6)

"Display randomly malfunctions."

Anonymous, FL (2015 Infiniti Q50 Hybrid 3.5-L V6 hybrid)

"Started about a year ago episodically. Restarting the car got it to resume"

Anonymous, NY (2015 Infiniti Q50 S 3.7-L V6)
Display screen goes blank

"From time to time when the car 1st started the screen will go blank then will try to reboot several times. We have to turn the car off and restart it to resolve the issue"

John M., FL (2015 Infiniti Q50 Premium 3.7-L V6)

"System crash. Had to reset everything"

Jose J., NJ (2015 Infiniti Q50 Premium 3.7-L V6)
External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"Wish a firmware upgrade would bring car play to this vehicle. iPhone and Infiniti don't communicate well. Nissan blames Apple, Apple blames Nissan. Basically, piss poor software implementation."

Shankar N., AL (2015 Infiniti Q50 Premium 3.5-L V6 hybrid)

"at least once a week, a plugged in USB drive with 5,000 mp3 songs becomes unrecognized. Re-inserting the drive, or when that does not work, turning car off and on, corrects the problem. Dealer says no firmware update is available to address the issue and has no solution."

Anonymous, NJ (2015 Infiniti Q50 Premium 3.7-L V6)

"Frequently it does not recognize the USB device (stick). I simply unplug and re-plug it in, and it works. Very annoying. Obviously nothing wrong with the usb stick"

Anonymous, NJ (2015 Infiniti Q50 Premium 3.7-L V6)

"Bad Audio Controls"

Anonymous, NY (2015 Infiniti Q50 Base 3.7-L V6)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"The maps show different place when set to go from, say pint a to point b.Map function mot reliable at all. I used my cell phone. WAZE is the nav program I use. Wish Apple's 'car play ' was available. Unable to use the phone effectively. the calls cannot be answered sometimes. Touch Screen is not sensitive. Nissan is slacing in service."

Shankar N., AL (2015 Infiniti Q50 Premium 3.5-L V6 hybrid)

"Maps out of date. Voice recognition suggests ridiculous results. Whole console stopped working at one time."

Anonymous, ON (2015 Infiniti Q50 Premium 3.7-L V6)

"The Nav system blanked out I took it in , they reset it. It blanked again a few weeks later I took it inthey reset ,again. It happened again they replaced it att"

Anonymous, LA (2015 Infiniti Q50 Premium 3.7-L V6)

"The system needs to be updated but there is a charge to do so. The touch screen is too sensitive and the system does not always give you adequate notification for pending turns. In addition some times the voice notifications do not work."

John M., FL (2015 Infiniti Q50 Premium 3.7-L V6)

"Completely useless compared to any phone navigation system"

Paul G., CA (2015 Infiniti Q50 Premium 3.7-L V6)

"It appears that this system is very limited in routing. When we 1st used it to return to our new home it took us on a very circuitous route. The system is also difficult to program when there is more than one city with a similar address"

John M., FL (2015 Infiniti Q50 Premium 3.7-L V6)

"Database is two years older than the car. Time estimates are inaccurate due to standard highway and street travel speeds used for calculations"

Anonymous, MN (2015 Infiniti Q50 Premium 3.7-L V6)

"This was a $1450 option what was not at all worth it. The only reason I got it was so I didn't have to stare at an analog clock in the upper screen. Also, updates to the maps are a complete joke. $120 for something that should be free and they are already out of date by the time they get to the customer."

Anonymous, TX (2015 Infiniti Q50 S 3.7-L V6)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"The car will spontaneously lose bluetooth connection and then it takes forever to get it to properly reconnect."

Paul D., CO (2015 Infiniti Q50 Premium 3.7-L V6)

"Pairing doesn’t always work."

Anonymous, FL (2015 Infiniti Q50 Hybrid 3.5-L V6 hybrid)

"Very Choppy connection to bluetooth. Lose connection sometimes. Expect more from a luxury car"

"Cannot pair our phones anymore. Sometimes it works and most times not."

Anonymous, TX (2015 Infiniti Q50 S 3.7-L V6)
