CR's Take
The redesigned Jaguar XJ8 appears this summer, maintaining the big Jaguar's traditionally distinctive looks. Its aluminum body weighs considerably less than the outgoing model, even though the car is wider, longer, and taller and offers more interior room. The V8 engine will pump out 294 hp, and the high-performance XJR has a supercharged version producing 390 hp. Expect the same luxurious leather and wood interior as in the older model, as well as the clumsy J-gate automatic shifter. With its smooth and spirited drivetrain the outgoing XJ8 was competitive with premium models from BMW, Lexus, and Mercedes-Benz, and the ride was supremely comfortable.
