With the introduction of this version of the Jaguar flagship, the XJ moved away from traditional Jaguar sedan styling. Powered by a muscular and refined 385-hp V8, this Jag handles with agility and grace while delivering a smooth, supple, and well controlled ride.
Exceptionally plush details and luxury features are applied to the quiet and tastefully appointed interior. Only four adults will fit comfortably though, and headroom is a little stingy. This makes the cabin feel somewhat snug for larger people. Some of the controls are confusing and not particularly well arranged. The trunk is also quite small for a large car.
Notable changes
An eight-speed automatic transmission and a 340-hp, supercharged, 3.0-liter V6 were added for 2013. All-wheel drive was also fitted as an option. Changes for 2016 included updated exterior styling and standard LED headlights. The XJ also got a new infotainment system and an available WiFi hotspot.
All 2016 models also got Jaguar's InControl Protect and Remote system for monitoring the car and performing various functions using smartphone apps.
