    What Owners Say

    Other electric/hybrid charging problem

""Sometimes I plug into a level 2 charger and the car does not start charging. Sometimes the charging stops before the battery reaches the level I had set it to (70, 80, or 100%) Sometimes it works. Hard to know what to expect. I cannot count on the car being ready to go.""

Anonymous A., CA (2022 Kia EV6 Wind Electric)

"12v battery issue from previous response"

Anonymous, GA (2022 Kia EV6 Wind Electric)

""ICCU failure, replacement at no cost, service took 10 days""

    Anonymous, MD (2022 Kia EV6 GT-Line Electric)

"It suddenly stopped charging from L2 chargers, for no obvious reason. Turns out to be bad ICCU, a common problem with these cars. No dealership would even look at it for three weeks, and they wouldn't give me a loaner, terrible experience."

    Anonymous, MI (2022 Kia EV6 GT-Line Electric)

""2 or 3 days after a software update, driving home from work the system put an error alert on the screen telling me of a failure and to get it diagnosed as soon as possible. after a few miles the car shifted into "Limp home mode" and would go no faster than 25 mph. The last 1.5 miles of my drive fortunately were on neighborhood streets with a 25mph limit. After having it towed to the nearest dealer it took them a couple of weeks to get to it, diagnose and repair. It is a known issue with this model.""

Anonymous, NC (2022 Kia EV6 Wind Electric)

"Already told the story in the previous box."

    Anonymous A., VA (2022 Kia EV6 GT-Line Electric)

""Both symptoms traced to faulty ICCU. At 8,000 miles, 12 volt battery would not retain charge; at 14,000 miles EV failed to accept Level 2 charge. Both traced to ICCU. ICCU replaced as part of recall.""

Anonymous, WA (2022 Kia EV6 Wind Electric)

""After an update, their change blew out my level 2 charger. They fixed the issue and paid for my new charger after 5 months.""

Anonymous, FL (2022 Kia EV6 Wind Electric)

""The 12 volt battery was not charging, beginning 2024, which kept the rest of the batteries from charging. Apparently it is a common issue. It was resolved by buying a new battery at our expense. The dealership didn't seem to know how to resolve the issue.""

Anonymous, (2022 Kia EV6 Wind Electric)

"The new 2022 platform for Kia EV6 and Hyundai ionic 5 had a problem with a critical internal charge controller unit. It would fail and stop charging the 12V battery from the main high-voltage battery. This happened to us suddenly, and the car quickly depleted the 12V battery, which it requires for all non-drive systems. We were out, but in our home city, and had to have it towed to a dealership. This was a wide-spread problem with the 2022 model year for both of those cars - it was a completely new EV platform. The problem was fixed in later model years. Warrantee fully covered replacement, and the dealership very quickly replaced the charge controller with a new one the next day. However, it should have been a proactive recall, in my opinion, since it was known before it affected our car. It was not dangerous in our case, because of where we were when it failed, but could have caused an issue if we had been on a highway and did not have time to exit before the 12V batter was depleted."

    Problem with on-board inverter

"Would not charge on Level 2 charger. Easy factory campaign fix at Kia dealer"

    Anonymous, ID (2022 Kia EV6 GT-Line Electric)

"The A/C stopped blowing cold air, according to the dealership the problem is with the inverter. The car has been with the dealership for over two months, they have replaced the inverter and every component of the A/C multiple times and have not been able to solve the problem. I am pursuing buy-back options with Kia. Between this problem and earlier battery and ICCU problems, this car has been in the shop for one of every three months that I have owned it."

    Won't charge at home

""ICCU failure, replacement at no cost, service took 10 days""

    Anonymous, MD (2022 Kia EV6 GT-Line Electric)

""The problem started in early December, 2024. About half the time after I plugged the car in nothing would happen. The other half of the time, it would trip the circuit breaker. I called the closest dealer, asking to bring it to them just to plug it in as a test to see if the problem was the car or the EVSE (although the EVSE display showed everything to be fine until I plugged it into the car). He told me that his Level 2 charger was broken and I should call an electrician. Instead I used PlugShare to find a nearby public Level 2 charger. I needed to sneak into a gated apartment parking lot to reach the charger, but I successfully determined that the vehicle wouldn't charge there either. I found that I could charge using a high-speed DC charger. It was a little inconvenient, but as it turned out my wife was undergoing PT at a nearby location, so for a while it wasn't so bad. After my experience with the closer dealer, I made an appointment with one that actually has a good reputation for service. They quickly verified that the car would not charge and diagnosed the problem as a failure of the dreaded ICCU. They ordered the part, which was amazingly delivered over the weekend and scheduled a repair for later in the week. The dealer kept the car overnight and arranged for a Lyft to take me home and pick me up the next day. Since then the car has been fine.""

    What Owners Say

    12V battery

""The 12 volt battery was not holding an adequate charge, and was replaced under warranty.""

    Anonymous A., NY (2022 Kia EV6 GT-Line Electric)

"The car failed to charge the 12V battery so the car wouldn't go"

Anonymous, CA (2022 Kia EV6 Wind Electric)

""Twice the battery control module stopped charging the 12 volt battery. Once the car stopped while I was driving, I was able to pull over safely but the car lost all power shortly afterwards. The second time I found the car dead on the driveway. 6 weeks later Kia has not repaired the car. I have bren without a car since then.""

Anonymous A., CA (2022 Kia EV6 Wind Electric)

"12v parasitic draw. Determined to be a short in the exterior antenna causing the battery to drain. Fixed under warranty."

Anonymous, MA (2022 Kia EV6 Wind Electric)

"I started the car twice and received the message that the battery was not charged. I reported it to the dealership and the next time it happened it was called in, I was given a loaner while a recall was published. A month later the battery was fixed and I got my wonderful car back with no further issues."

Anonymous, NY (2022 Kia EV6 Wind Electric)

"The electric battery pack is supposed to charge the 12v system and that was not working. Kia dealerships were also not sure what the problem was or how to fix it. Third recall appears to have solved the problem. Apparently the ECC module had a defective design and it took them 3 recalls to fix it. This was a huge issue because the 12v system controls the brakes and we were unable to drive the vehicle and were stranded multiple times."

Anonymous, WA (2022 Kia EV6 Wind Electric)

""a few times last year car wouldn't start because 12V battery was low in charge. I had to tow the car to the dealership. After couple more non start episode, I decided to change the battery with 75% prorated price.""

    Anonymous A., ON (2022 Kia EV6 GT-Line Electric)

"Would not charge the 12v battery. The main battery pack was charged. The car will not operate without the 12v. Experienced this twice between two manufacturers recalls for this specific issue. Required the car to be jumped from an ICE auto."

Anonymous, GA (2022 Kia EV6 Wind Electric)

""Battery failed without warning, vehicle towed to dealer for replacement""

Anonymous A., NM (2022 Kia EV6 Wind Electric)

"seat control stopped working. New device installed (no cost)"

Anonymous, CA (2022 Kia EV6 Wind Electric)

    EV Battery

Electric/hybrid battery pack failure, replacement or malfunction, or cooling.

    What Owners Say

Electric/hybrid battery pack malfunction (didn't need replacement)

"The battery stopped fully charging after a long road trip. It would only charge to about 70% capacity, significantly reducing the range. It spent about 1.5 months at the dealership while they tried to figure out the problem. Eventually they told me it was a faulty connection to the battery, nothing needed to be replaced, they just unplugged and re-plugged the batteries. This solved the problem for about two months, then the ICCU failed. When the ICCU failed the car lost power entirely and I needed to pull over on a busy street and wait for a tow. The ICCU replacement took another month+ in the shop. This was all after being in the shop for two days getting the ICCU software update as part of the recall."
