    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2024 Kia EV9 owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    Body Hardware

Windows, locks and latches, doors or sliding doors, tailgate, trunk or hatch, mirrors, seat controls (power or manual), seat belts, sunroof, convertible top, glass defect.

    What Owners Say

    Locks and latches

"Center console latch defective. The lid rattles due to loose latch. Dealer has not addressed after multiple requests to fix it. We did not receive a physical key with the purchase of the vehicle. It's necessary if the battery doesn't work in either the key fob or the vehicle."

    Anonymous, ID (2024 Kia EV9 GT-Line Electric)
    Other body problem

"Unstable driver's seat while turning was noticed on the drive home from purchasing. It took one month to get a service appointment. On the plus side, the issue was immediately verified by service department (on 1 Nov 2024), but problem was not fixed until 5 Mar 2025. I was without my vehicle for over 4 months. After replacing the seat back did fix the issue, the local service technician wanted to replace the entire seat. However, Corporate Kia micromanaged the entire process and three times tried replacing only the seat back, each time having to wait for the part to arrive from Korea. Finally, after waiting for the entire seat to arrive from Korea, the issue was resolved. My experience with Corporate Kia was beyond poor. They were mostly non-communicative and non-responsive, and when they did respond, they were deliberately vague and always late on their promised follow-up. I wound up filing a lemon-law claim."

    Anonymous, AZ (2024 Kia EV9 GT-Line Electric)

""Seat felt loose even after recall, developed a noticeable squeak""

Anonymous A., OK (2024 Kia EV9 Wind Electric)

"My EV9 has had an issue where if another vehicle parks to close to the driver's door, there is NO way to get into the car."

Anonymous, VA (2024 Kia EV9 Land Electric)

""Driver seat moves (wiggles/shifts) a small amount when turning, accelrating, braking. Seat back was replaced, seat base is backordered.""

    Anonymous A., NC (2024 Kia EV9 GT-Line Electric)

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Display screen goes blank

""Display went out at night time, dangerous. Software upgrade fixed problem.""

Anonymous, IN (2024 Kia EV9 Wind Electric)

"The diagnosis says at all it happened multiple times and the dealership was unable to deal with it."

Anonymous, KY (2024 Kia EV9 Land Electric)

""The display screen with the speedometer and the turn signals went blank once. There was a recall to fix the problem. Not related but the CR review said that the climate controls were hard to see being blocked by the steering wheel. There is a plus looking icon on the upper right. When pushed, the climate controls are moved where they can be easily seen.""

Anonymous, MD (2024 Kia EV9 Wind Electric)
    Other in-car electronics problem

""When the car is put into cruise control the first click to decrease the speed frequently increases the set speed. The auto wipers will sometimes wipe when there is no rain. The car pairs with my iphone to open the car. It maybe works 90% of the time. If I leave the car unlocked and return to it, it automatically locks the car. I have to get the key fob out to unlock it. (I gave up using the phone as a means to control locking and unlocking) The associated Kia Access program locked me out for seemingly no reason.""

Anonymous, MD (2024 Kia EV9 Wind Electric)

    EV Battery

Electric/hybrid battery pack failure, replacement or malfunction, or cooling.

    What Owners Say

Electric/hybrid battery pack malfunction (didn't need replacement)

"Total range at 80% charge gradually decreased until range displayed was roughly 80 total miles. No cause determined because Kia doesn't have a person to inspect the vehicle. It has been in the shop for over 3 months to date with a target inspection one more month from now"

Anonymous, NC (2024 Kia EV9 Land Electric)
    Electric/hybrid battery pack replacement

""Cell in battery died about 9 months into ownership, limiting the amount of charge it would accept to about 50%. Took 2 months to get fixed by the dealership, Kia ended up buying the vehicle back.""

Anonymous A., OK (2024 Kia EV9 Wind Electric)
    Other electric/hybrid battery problem

"About March 26, I got a RED dash indicator saying Charging Error while driving. The car was towed to the dealership where is has remained since. The problem(s) identified as a bad Battery Monitoring System or a bad battery cell. Both the BMS and battery repair requires a KIA engineer perform the actual repair. I've been waiting 4 months for an engineer to be available to come to the dealership for the repairs. KIA doesn't publish any kind of calendar/schedule to their dealership when an engineer is coming to the dealership. Most times, an KIA engineer just shows up one day and the dealership has to jump through hoops to get the car into the shop so the repairs can be done."

Anonymous, VA (2024 Kia EV9 Land Electric)

    Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

    What Owners Say

    12V battery

"Failure of the keyless entry system preceeded a message from the vehicle that the 12V battery had failed. Kia Roadside assist was very helpful and immediately sent out a technician to jump-start the vehicle, who verified that the 12V battery had failed and instructed me to bring it to the dealership for service ASAP. The service department followed a checklist from Corporate Kia to evaluate the issue. They kept the vehicle for two days, and then returned it to me saying the battery was fine and that they could not find anything wrong. Additionally, the incident report that I was given by the service department did not mention that I brought the vehicle in for a 12V battery failure -- I was most displeased."

    Anonymous, AZ (2024 Kia EV9 GT-Line Electric)
    Keyless entry

"The vehicle would not open on approach even though the key fob was in my pocket, which turned out to be a precursor of the 12V battery failure."

    Anonymous, AZ (2024 Kia EV9 GT-Line Electric)

"There are times when the door is unlocked and the automatic handle pops out but serve doors dont open. I need to lock the doors again and then unlock them so they actually work."

    Anonymous, CA (2024 Kia EV9 GT-Line Electric)

    EV Charging

Won't charge at home; won't work with some public chargers; won't fully charge; charge connection; charge port door.

    What Owners Say

    Other electric/hybrid charging problem

""Sporadically, frequently starts and then immedieately stops charging. About 6 times per minute. Will not stop cycling until vehicle is disconnected. Has been to dealer 4 times, still not resolved. Only occurs with level 1 and 2 charging.""

    Anonymous A., NC (2024 Kia EV9 GT-Line Electric)
    Problem with on-board inverter

"This was a problem on early EV9s and they couldnt figure it out. It wouldnt charge from an AC source. It was in the shop for over 30 days and it was lemon lawed and we got a new one after owning it for 6 months."

    Anonymous, CA (2024 Kia EV9 GT-Line Electric)

    Electric Motor

Electric drive failure, replacement or malfunction.

Premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, brake failure, regenerative braking.

Anonymous, FL (2024 Kia EV9 Land Electric)

    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say
