    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2023 Kia Niro Electric owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    EV Charging

Won't charge at home; won't work with some public chargers; won't fully charge; charge connection; charge port door.

    What Owners Say

    Charges too slowly

"I have never been able to fully charge the Kia Niro 2023 wind model at promised high Level 2 Charging currents/speeds. Low ( 16-20Amp) charging is what seems to work, and is very slow. Any higher current levels and the charging interrupts. Dealerships are not able to help."

Anonymous A., OH (2023 Kia Niro Electric Wave Electric)

"The KIA Niro EV is advertised to have an 11 KW AC Charging capability (which even CR erroneously states). I bought a 9.6 KW Clipper Creek Charger and Charger/Car went into endless ON/OFF Toggle. After about 4 Trips to KIA Dealer, the only way to fix was a SW Patch that limited charging to only 5.8 KW. I was told that stated AC Charging Capability of 11 KW only applied to 3-Phase 230 W European Power Chargers. I have Power Meter that shows after plugin 9.6 KW is maintained for 20 - 30 Min and then tops out at 5.8 KW thereafter!! It is not an 11KW AC Charging capability! Again, AC charging is limited to 5.8 KW after short period. AC Charging Capability is grossly mis-represented. Also, if you do not have KIA Niro EV Charging SW Patch, your Charger will go into Continuous Fault RESET cycles. I have the data showing this."

    Other electric/hybrid charging problem

"This is related to previously discussed problem. Because car does not charge at advertised 11 KW rate (more like 5.8 KW), it takes significantly longer to charge than advertised."

Anonymous A., CA (2023 Kia Niro Electric Wind Electric)
    Won't charge at home

"My Kia Niro EV charges with public charges, but fails when trying to charge at my uncle's house where he had a juicebox level 2 charger installed by an electrician. It connects, starts charging, and then makes clicking sounds and stops / fails. I otherwise have had no issues charging both with level 2 and DCFC level 3's of various brands. I love the car otherwise and am not sure what the issue with this home charger could be, but the home charger charges my uncle's plug in hybrid BMW no problem."

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Hardware replacement

"6 months in, the head unit began leaving shadows/echoes of previous displays. Eventually making it unusable. Also drained the starter batetery. Called and had it replaced under warranty with no problems. Even given a loaner while waiting."

Anonymous, ON (2023 Kia Niro Electric Wave Electric)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"Display screen has spontaneously cracked (in an area behind the steering wheel that is not usually touched)."

Anonymous A., OH (2023 Kia Niro Electric Wave Electric)

    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    Other climate system problem

"The air conditioner does not work on very hot days. I have not yet taken the car for service, so don't know the scope or cause of the problem. We have experienced this problem twice in the last month. Dealer cannot service the vehicle for another three weeks."

Anonymous A., CA (2023 Kia Niro Electric Wind Electric)

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.
