The Optima comes well equipped at a competitive price. It has a comfortable ride, quiet cabin, and very good fit and finish. The 2.7-liter V6 performs smoothly but isn't very fuel-efficient--it averaged just 20 mpg overall. Handling is not the Optima's strength, as the car corners with pronounced body lean, and steering is slow and uncommunicative. The front seats lacked lower back support for some of our drivers. Head room is tight, requiring some drivers to recline the seat. A Poor in the IIHS side-crash test is another negative. Four-cylinder models can't be equipped with antilock brakes.
