The Optima is a sensible, well-rounded family sedan that's competitively priced and offers a lot of features for the money. It isn't exciting to drive, but it's spacious inside, rides well, and handles securely. The four-cylinder engine is responsive and returned a very respectable 25 mpg in our tests. The V6 (22 mpg) is also responsive and refined. The highway ride is basically sound but can get a little jittery. The interior is quite well finished, but the front-seat contouring is a little too flat for best lumbar support. We found the rear seat roomy and comfortable. Curtain air bags, ABS, and electronic stability control are all standard.

Safety Equipment

ABS available, standard from 2009. Side air bags standard. Head protection air bags standard from 2007. ESC available from 2006, standard from 2010.

Road Test

The well-rounded Kia Optima is a sensible and competitively priced sedan. It may not be an exciting drive, but it's roomy, rides well, handles securely and has a refined four-cylinder powertrain returning a commendable 25 mpg overall. Fit and finish...
