What Owners Say
"Engine just quit and was replaced under warranty."
Anonymous, AZ (2016 Kia Optima SX 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Persistent minor oil leaks could not be fixed bt dealer for 16 months therefore engine was replaced at Kia's cost."
Anonymous A., CA (2016 Kia Optima LX Unsure)"Driving my daughter back to college, engine seized on the highway at 70 mph. Steering and brakes continued to work. Engine replaced under warranty at 71,000 miles. Though I did not find any record that it was included under a class action for the other Kia engines, they said it was and I had to submit the claim for the rental car through that program. It was not fully covered."
Anonymous A., PA (2016 Kia Optima EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"I started to lose oil for no reason. So over a period of 5 months I worked with the dealer. They filled the oil and I would need to bring back right at 1,000. We did this for 3 times. The problem still existed so the dealer replaced the engine at no charge"
Anonymous A., IL (2016 Kia Optima EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)""Oil burning issue for years, finally failed the oil consumption test and Kia agreed to replace engine""
Anonymous A., CA (2016 Kia Optima EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)""Kia replaced the engine at 72,000 miles since it was burning excessive oil (1.5 quarts in 1,000 miles). This was done under an extended warranty. We were told by the dealer to expect to have to replace it again in another 70K miles.""
Anonymous, TX (2016 Kia Optima EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"had all warnings lights go on and took it to dealer, found out engine failure but covered by warranty and replaced at almost no charge"
Anonymous, OH (2016 Kia Optima SXL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"At 112,000 miles, the engine suddenly seized as I was driving home. I ended up needing an entire engine replacement at $5,000. This was after meticulously changing my oil using synthetic oil and filters on schedule"
Anonymous, CA (2016 Kia Optima EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)""This vehicle has a Theta 2 engine, which was the subject of a successful class action law suit against Kia. It is currently exhibiting all the signs of failure due to lack of lubrication: pausing, knocking, high oil consumption, low power, etc. We believe it will fail in the near future notwithstanding all our maintenance and attempts to nurse it along.""
Anonymous, WI (2016 Kia Optima EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)""The engine seized up after driving less than 1 mile. Kia did replace the engine, but not the other cost, ie towing, Uber, etc.""
Anonymous, GA (2016 Kia Optima LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"There was no warning from the vehicle just a slight burning smell. The repair cost over $1000."
Anonymous A., GA (2016 Kia Optima LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)""While driving one day, the oil pressure warning light came on. Checked the oil, which was barely touching the end of the dipstick. I added oil to reach the operating range. Note--there is no evidence on the ground or engine of an oil leak, nor is there any white/blue or other smoke coming from the exhaust. I started checking the oil every week and soon had to add more. I did an internet search and found that excessive oil consumption on some KIA engines (including mine) have this problem. I took it to the KIA dealer who had a protocol to check this out. They confirmed the rapid loss of oil. After a "top engine clean," consumption slowed, but it has not totally corrected. Test results have been submitted to KIA for evaluation and determination of an engine replacement. I estimate now that I am adding a minimum of 2-3 quarts of oil between oil changes.""
Anonymous, TX (2016 Kia Optima LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)"Oil was being comsumed in the engine chambers and had to be cleaned and an "Oil consumption test" done."
Anonymous, GA (2016 Kia Optima EX Unsure)"The turbo failed."
Anonymous, CA (2016 Kia Optima SXL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
