The LR3 is a major improvement over its predecessor, the Discovery. But it still falls short of its contemporary class leaders. Heavy weight takes a toll on acceleration and fuel economy. Ride quality is supple, but unsettled at low speeds, and the vehicle feels very top heavy at its handling limits.
On the plus side, this is among the few SUVs that can comfortably fit adults in both the second- and third row seats. The LR3 also performed very well on our off-road and rock-hill courses, thanks to its height-adjustable suspension and off-road control system.
The 2010 models (now known as LR4) got extensive suspension system and brake updates designed to improve performance. Larger and more powerful engines were also new for the 2010 model year.
