2026 Model Redesign Year
For 2026, the redesigned ES sedan is 6.5 inches longer than its predecessor, has a stiffer structure, and switches to a multilink rear suspension for better handling and a smoother ride. It gets Lexus' latest hybrid drivetrain, a 244-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an electronic CVT and a choice of front- or all-wheel drive. The hybrid’s EPA estimate is 46 mpg combined with FWD and 44 mpg combined with AWD. Inside, the ES debuts a new, streamlined interior design with improved visibility, flush-mounted climate buttons spaced far apart, and suede accents. The sedan retains the plush, quiet character that it’s known for, and rear legroom is impressive. The ES also gets Lexus’ latest set of advanced driver assistance and safety technology.
A fully-electric version is also available.

2019 Model Redesign Year
This comfortable and refined sedan has a quiet, plush interior that's well-put-together. The four-cylinder ES hybrid returns an impressive 42 mpg. The V6 version is mated to an eight-speed automatic, and the combination has prompt throttle response and a linear power delivery. The V6 attained 25 mpg overall. The four-cylinder non-hybrid ES 250 comes standard with all-wheel drive. The ES absorbs bumps very well, and the body stays composed.
Handling is sound and secure but not sporty. The cabin is quiet and luxurious, and the front seats are very comfortable. A recent freshening brought an easier-to-use touchscreen. Standard active safety systems include FCW, AEB with pedestrian detection. BSW and RCTW became standard beginning in 2022. All 2023 models got an updated infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability.

2013 Model Redesign Year
Lexus hurt ride comfort and made the controls complex with the ES redesign, and that carries over to the new hybrid version. In tests the hybrid's 200-hp, 2.5-liter four-cylinder and electric drive system returned an impressive 36 mpg overall and 44 mpg on the highway. The ride is decent but not that plush, and it's worse with the optional 18-inch wheels. Handling is sound but unexceptional. Inside, the quiet cabin looks good at first, but cheap touches are apparent. The driver-interaction system is distracting and convoluted unless you skip the nav system.
The hybrid's combination of size, luxury, and fuel economy makes it more appealing than the ES350, but a Camry hybrid provides much of the same for less money.
