While the Lexus IS has a plush interior and a relaxed driving manner, it lacks the sporty feel of some cars in this segment. Also, the interior is quite snug. Inside are high-quality materials, a hushed cabin, and a refined-sounding engine. Acceleration is quick, and fuel economy is commendable. However, the ride is stiff and the steering lacks feedback.

Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Shane M., FL (2007 Lexus IS 250 2.5-L V6)

“check engine light came on, lost power while accelerating. my service repair determined cylinder mis-fire, told me lexus had issued extended warranty for this issue, lexus paid for rebuilt engine at dealer at no charge to me”

Anonymous, WA (2007 Lexus IS 250 2.5-L V6)

“The engine piston rings failed. The engine had to be rebuilt. All the work was done under warranty even though the car was over 7 years old and no longer under warranty. EXCELLENT SERVICE”

Anonymous, QC (2007 Lexus IS 250 2.5-L V6)

“Carbon build-up damaged valves and cylinders. Lexus dealer discovered problem during service and Toyota approved a rebuild without charge. We did pay $500 for a new water pump on this low mileage car. Car was long past warranty; god bless Toyota!”

Anonymous, TN (2007 Lexus IS 250 2.5-L V6)

“Problems with cylinders causing misfiring, unable to start in cold weather, Vehicle Stability Control systems being disabled”

Anonymous, FL (2007 Lexus IS 350 3.5-L V6)

Electric System

Alternator, starter, hybrid battery and related systems, regular battery, battery cables, engine harness, coil, ignition switch, electronic ignition, distributor or rotor failure, spark plugs and wires failure.

What Owners Say

“I underwent a period in which the right (bright) headlight failed intermittently for about a month, working sometimes, not working others. Dealer replaced headlamp with the explanation that this frequently happens when the lamp begins to fail”

Anonymous, FL (2007 Lexus IS 350 Unsure)

“I have trouble with the headlights going off during travel. I have replaced and light and parts of the electrical system”

SUSn S., CA (2007 Lexus IS 250 Unsure)

“The tire pressure monitor sensor began failing intermittently over several months giving false readings. This was a huge headache since I never knew if I had a real issue or not. I'd have to pull the car over and check the pressure with a tire gauge. Lexus wouldn't replace the sensor even though it was under an extended warrenty unless they could run a diagnostic that proved the sensor was failing and of course it was always working when I scheduled an appointment. Finally one day when it wasn't”

Paul R., FL (2007 Lexus IS 250 2.5-L V6)
Warning lights

“The electrical system including the keyless remote sensor were all affected and malfunctioned, as a result of the insulation used on the wiring. The wiring was chewed by a rodent. I was informed by Lexus that the insulation on the wiring is made of soy, corn starch (and I think corn oil). I was told these substances were used to be "eco friendly" but unfortunately make the wiring attract rodents. I was told by the Lexus mechanic at the dealership that he had done several extremely costly ele”

Anonymous, GA (2007 Lexus IS 250 Unsure)

“Problems involved the check engine light showing when there was no apparent reason. Repair technicians could find no reason and reset the light. Other problem involved the tires, and the low tire light correctly warned of low tire pressure within days of the tires being correctly filled with air. This problem continues with as little as two days intervening between loss of air from one tire or another”

Gerald B., MD (2007 Lexus IS 250 2.5-L V6)
Pipes

“The 'Y' pipe connecting the exhaust pipes to the tail pipes had to be replaced and this includes one of the three catalytic converters. (It had been welded once already). After market part would not fit properly so had to buy Lexus part at over $1300 ! If either of the 2 tail pipes fail, they each have a catalytic converter, so cost to replace will be high. Poor design to have 3 catalytic converters!”

Exhaust manifold

“Rusted out, had to be replaced”

Anonymous, MA (2007 Lexus IS 250 2.5-L V6)

“Wheels had paint peeling in the first year of ownership and Lexus would not repair”

Anonymous, PA (2007 Lexus IS 250 2.5-L V6)

Evaporator

“AC condenser evaporator malfunctioned and leaked condensate to the inside of the vehicle, soaking the carpet and acoustic padding on the floor. Required a week in the shop and $2,000 to fix. There was a technical service bulletin issued on this but no recall so Lexus will not cover cost. Ouch!”

Harriet S., VA (2007 Lexus IS 250 2.5-L V6)

“making noises.... Lexus wants $750 to fix”

Thomas L., NJ (2007 Lexus IS 250 2.5-L V6)
