CR's Take
Near-total silence is what you experience when cruising in the LS400--the flagship of Toyota's upscale Lexus division. That's not all: The interior is sophisticated and meticulously finished and offers an optional onboard navigation system. The 4.0-liter, 290-hp V8 is exceptionally smooth and powerful. The ride is very comfortable, though handling is less than crisp. Standard features include side air bags and an electronic stability-control system, which works with the antilock-brake computer to help prevent sideward skids by selectively braking one or more wheels.
