Anonymous, CO (2005 Lexus RX 330 3.3-L V6)

"After giving RX exemplary care (ALWAYS using a sun shield), our dash started cracking approximately 5 months after the end of extended warranty period. Despite our exemplary care for the car (which is why the dash did not fail during the extended warranty period, a result of a class action suit, Lexus having refused to accept any responsibility for the defective part) and the fact that we have owned 5 other Lexus vehicles (that is. VERY loyal customers), Lexus refused any assistance (i.e., replacing the dash at true cost of parts and labor) and made sure to do so orally so as not to leave a written record. It made our next car purchase simpler: we bought another luxury brand's SUV."

"Jammed"

John E., SC (2005 Lexus RX 330 3.3-L V6)

David C., TX (2005 Lexus RX 330 3.3-L V6)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"The nav/bluetooth system going out pains me the most as I paid extra for that at purchase. Understand the oil and radiator leaks at seams and rattles due to age of car, all annoying but not unexpected"

Timothy J., NJ (2005 Lexus RX 330 3.3-L V6)

Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, leaks.

What Owners Say

Catalytic converter

"Both of them need replaced"

Anonymous, OH (2005 Lexus RX 330 3.3-L V6)

"Check Engine light came on shortly after buying the car. Mechanic indicated it may have been due to a lot of short, local driving. Had it replaced; problem resolved"

Brian C., TX (2005 Lexus RX 330 3.3-L V6)

"One catalytic converter was replaced just after purchasing the vehicle with 120,000 miles on it. It had been driven primarily in town which probably contributed to premature failure. The other converter has caused a check engine code and will eventually require replacement."

Anonymous, TX (2005 Lexus RX 330.0 3.3-L V6)

Loose/rattling heat shield

"Rattled and shop replaced gasket"

Anonymous, ME (2005 Lexus RX 330 3.3-L V6)

"unexpected that the heat shield would rust/rattle in a car we don't use much and has been predominantly garaged, and not a cheap fix"

Timothy J., NJ (2005 Lexus RX 330 3.3-L V6)

Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, oil leaks.

What Owners Say

Engine computer

"Our gas mileage suddenly dropped dramatically despite our performing all recommended maintenance on the RX 330, including a major service at 120,000 miles that included new spark plugs and changing all fluids. (The mileage had dropped before this service.) Although the diagnostic computer report everything was in spec, we replaced the mass airflow sensor because it's inexpensive to DIY, less than $100, and replaced the two fuel-air sensors (costing about $900) because they were just barely within spec. Mileage has improved slightly but is still awful and so far no one can tell us why. Coupled with the dashboard and transmission issues and Lexus refusal to help in any way we are wholly dissatisfied with Toyota/Lexus and will act accordingly"

William M., CA (2005 Lexus RX 330.0 3.3-L V6)
Oil leaks

"SUV has 130,000 miles so everything is leaking fluids"

Anonymous, (2005 Lexus RX 3.3-L V6)

James W., ON (2005 Lexus RX 330.0 3.3-L V6)

"Developed an oil leak from the rear main bearing seal. Engine had to be pulled out to repair."

Anonymous, AZ (2005 Lexus RX 330.0 3.3-L V6)

"Slow oil leak from the passenger side."

James W., ON (2005 Lexus RX 330.0 3.3-L V6)

Engine Cooling

Radiator, cooling fan, antifreeze leaks, water pump, thermostat, overheating.

What Owners Say

Radiator

"The radiator had a very slow leak. We're not sure when it started because it sprayed onto the engine and evaporated. It may have begun prior to the 120Kmmile service (which replaced coolant) and thus effectively hid the problem for a while. Ultimately, it lost enough coolant that the temp started rising too high. Radiator replaced and this required evacuating and recharging A/C system with some freon loss."

Anonymous, CA (2005 Lexus RX 330.0 3.3-L V6)

IN SOME CASES, THE BELT FOR THE POWER STEERING PUMP MAY BECOME DETACHED FROM THE PULLEY WHICH COULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND A SUDDEN INCREASE IN STEERING EFFORT, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Summary:
TOYOTA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2004 AVALON VEHICLES; 2004 AND 2005 CAMRY, CAMRY SOLARA, HIGHLANDER, AND SIENNA VEHICLES, 2006 HIGHLANDER HYBRID; 2004 AND 2005 LEXUS ES330 AND RX330; AND 2006 LEXUS RX400H VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM JUNE 1, 2004 THROUGH MARCH 31, 2005, EQUIPPED WITH THE 1MZ-FE OR 3MZ-FE ENGINE. THE AMOUNT OF ADHESIVE AGENT APPLIED BETWEEN THE OUTER RING AND THE TORSIONAL RUBBER DAMPER (INNER RING) IN THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY MAY BE INADEQUATE. IF THE ADHESIVE IS INSUFFICIENT, THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE OUTER RING MAY BECOME MISALIGNED AND IT MAY NOT PROPERLY ROTATE WITH THE INNER RING, CAUSING NOISE AND/OR ILLUMINATION OF THE BATTERY DISCHARGE INDICATOR LIGHT.
What should you do:
TOYOTA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL CHECK THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY TO IDENTIFY WHETHER IT WAS PRODUCED BY THE U.S. SUPPLIER. IF SO, THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THE PULLEY WITH A NEW ONE AT NO CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING EARLY JANUARY 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-800-331-4331.
