Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2018 Lexus RX owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Backup or other camera/sensors

"I make this comment from comparing my Lexus with our Hundai SUV. The Hundai is significantly superior in every way. Clarity of back up image is sharp, good contrast and easy to see. The Lexus in the bright sunshine has a very low contrast and clear vision."

Anonymous, ID (2018 Lexus RX 3.5-L V6)
CD player

"We purchased the upgraded and extremely expensive Mark Levison factory upgraded model and it constantly stopped working from time to time and with certain CD's. The same CD's were used in my wife's Lexus NX and my Harley Davison CD player and they performed flawlessly. However when we tried to play them in the RX Mark Levinson they would hang up. The upgrade was extremely expensive and should have been of higher quality. I would not opt for the upgrade if I had it to do over again."

Anonymous, GA (2018 Lexus RX 3.5-L V6)

"The amplifier for all sound is broken and needs to be replaced"

Anonymous, CT (2018 Lexus RX 3.5-L V6)
Display screen freezes up

Walter C., PA (2018 Lexus RX 350.0 3.5-L V6)
Transmission computer

"Vehicle had hesitation between gear shifts. Not smooth acceleration. Problem discussed with Lexus. Software adjustments made it better."

Anonymous, MN (2018 Lexus RX 350.0 3.5-L V6)

Climate System

Blower (fan) motor, A/C compressor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate control, refrigerant leakage, electrical failure.

What Owners Say

Automatic climate control

"The automatic climate control system does not seem to react in a timely manner. When it is hot or cold, I would expect the fans to blow harder or at least the temperature to change more quickly."

Anonymous, WA (2018 Lexus RX 450h 3.5-L V6 hybrid)

Brakes

Antilock system (ABS), parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear.

What Owners Say

Rotors

"OEM front rotors were so warped that they were not able to be resurfaced...had to be replaced at 20k miles. This is so unusual for a Lexus RX. I should know, I've owned 4 of these SUVs starting back in 2003. I filed a claim with Lexus corporate customer care...they fully reimbursed me. I hope my experience is not the norm because Toyota now uses a softer (less expensive) rotor. Lexus treated me well and I am appreciative of their reimbursement...just disappointed that it happened at all."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Lexus RX 3.5-L V6)

Paint/Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling), loose interior and exterior trim or moldings, rust.

What Owners Say

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

Anonymous, IL (2018 Lexus RX 3.5-L V6)

Drive System

Driveshaft or axle, CV joint, differential, transfer case, 4WD/AWD components, driveline vibration, traction control, electronic stability control (ESC), electrical failure.
