2023 Model Redesign Year
The RZ is the first Lexus electric vehicle. It shares its platform and many components with the Toyota bZ4X. Available as a front-wheel-drive RZ 300e or AWD RZ 450e, it's a fine-driving SUV, with quick acceleration, a comfortable ride, and a quiet cabin. But the RZ falters when it comes to driving range, charging speed, and the amount of EV-specific information given to the driver. With its 71.4-kilowatt-hour battery and 18-inch wheels and tires, the RZ 450e managed a mere 202 miles in our 70-mph highway-range test; the optional 20-inch tires will reduce driving range even further. Either way, that's notably shorter than any direct rival's range, let alone those of some less expensive EVs.
Power, range, and charging speeds were increased for the 2026 model year with the 450e being rated for about 260 miles of range according to Lexus.

2023-Present

2023 Model Redesign Year
The RZ 450e is the first Lexus battery-electric vehicle. It shares its platform and components with the Toyota bZ4X, but has more horsepower and typical Lexus interior touches. Sized almost like the Lexus RX, it comes only with all-wheel drive. The 71.4 kWh battery can deliver up to 220 miles, if equipped with the standard 18-inch tires, and 196 miles with the optional 20-inch tires. Either way, that's notably shorter than many rivals--even less expensive ones. A 6.6 kW on-board charger is also skimpy and results in home charging that's on the slower side.
At least a 150 kW maximum acceptance rate at public DC-fast charging places is competitive. Ride and handling are pleasant, and the cabin is roomy, but the lack of a glovebox is a glaring omission. The Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 suite is standard, packing the latest active safety features including driver attention monitoring. Lexus made relatively significant changes to the RZ for 2026 to increase range, power, and charging speeds.
