Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Road Test

Lincoln arrived late to the fashionable, crowded compact luxury SUV party with the MKC. Basing it on the accomplished Ford Escape should be a great place to start, but weighing down the package with too much jewelry hides the car's natural talent.

In contrast to the Escape's composure, the Lincoln bobs around too much on the road; the ride never settles down. Three optional adjustable suspension modes enable the driver to dial in the desired dynamic personality, adjusting for comfort and agility, but none of the selections strikes the right balance. Handling is ultimately secure but not as agile as other small luxury SUVs. The Lincoln feels larger in corners than it really is -- the opposite of what you want.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2017 Lincoln MKC owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Body Integrity

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, loose or cracked seals and/or weather-stripping, air and water leaks.

What Owners Say

Squeaks or rattles

"The vehicle was extremely quiet when received. Squeaks and rattles developed in the dash area, especially on the driver's side. This happened about 9 months from new. We made a service appointment and this issue was fixed per a Tech service bulletin with foam tape applied in appropriate areas. The loaner 2016 MKC we used during the service had the same issue at 20000 miles."

Anonymous, MI (2017 Lincoln MKC Reserve 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Horrible Loud bang from the back speakers or subwoofer. Scared me half to death. Random so you never know when it’s coming"

Anonymous, MI (2017 Lincoln MKC Reserve 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Squeak from the drivers side dash. It was fixed via a TSB."

Anonymous, NE (2017 Lincoln MKC Reserve 2.3-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Anonymous, ON (2017 Lincoln MKC Premiere 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Creaking sound from rear, especially when turning or going over slight elevation (like a dip or speed bump). A TSB was issued by Lincoln - multiple service centers could not completely solve the creaking issue. Also rattling sound coming from the front dash - sounds like plastic vibrating against glass - most evident over slightly bumpier roads, like an overpass. Tested for both sounds with same brand vehicles and only MKC seems to have this issue"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Lincoln MKC Select 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Cold weather rattle from right front speaker"

Anonymous, ON (2017 Lincoln MKC Premiere 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Very infuriating rattle inside the instrument panel. I left it at the dealership for 3 weeks and they never heard it or fixed it. Still there and I don't know what else to do."

Valree A., NC (2017 Lincoln MKC Reserve 2.3-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Squeaky, creaky sounds coming from rear tailgate area, on turns and mild bumps, lots with an elevated ramp - unable to be fixed by multiple dealerships. Acknowledged it was a problem with the 2017 MKCs. Rattle coming from the front driver dash / pillar area - Lincoln using lots of plastic that can rattle against each other. Separately, driver seatbelt had to be replaced - it no longer retracted. Within 2 years of new purchase. Warranty repair."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Lincoln MKC Select 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"A pillar vibrates against windshield over minor bumpy roads. Also rear squeaking on turns or over humps in a road."

What Owners Say

Exterior lights (other than headlights)

"My 2017 Lincoln MKC was in for service three times because the rear turns signals weren't working all the time. After three visits, the problem still wasn't resolved. I know it's difficult to pinpoint intermittent problems, but three visits and no resolution was a bit ridiculous. On the fourth attempt, when I threatened to invoke California's lemon law, the dealership kept my car for two months and gave me a loaner. The apparent reason for keeping my car was because they decided to replace the entire rear electrical assembly, which Lincoln had to make for them because they didn't have any in stock (at least this is the story from the dealership). My first visit was on March 4, 2019, and my car wasn't completely repaired until November."
