Tremendously practical, the Mazda5 has a wide range of attributes unmatched by any other vehicle on the market. Sliding side doors and seats for six make it an alternative for larger and more-expensive minivans and SUVs. Lots of windows provide a good view out and the tidy footprint aids maneuverability and parking. Nimble and agile handling means it doesn't sacrifice being fun-to-drive either.

    Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

    Driving Experience

    Includes acceleration and handling

    What Owners Say

"Handles very well for fwd van. acceleration barely adequate and noisy."

    Anonymous, CA (2015 Mazda 5)

"Handles surprisingly well for a vehicle with such a high center of gravity."

    Jeff F., IL (2015 Mazda 5)

"It is very nice to drive, perhaps the best handling car I have driven."

    Graeme M., ON (2015 Mazda 5)

"We really like the way Mazdas handle, including this one, and it's the main reason we keep buying them. Response and pickup is good. It doesn't roll backward on hills. Driving is almost effortless because the vehicle just does what I want it to."

    Anonymous, PA (2015 Mazda 5)

    Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

    What Owners Say

"The pop-up jump seats in the back are really useful because sometimes we have to transport six people and other times we have to transport a lot of cargo. Being able to pop up just one jump seat gives us a lot of flexibility when we are carrying odd loads. For example, we have sometimes taken five people to vend at a craft fair along with our tent and tables and merchandise."

    Anonymous, PA (2015 Mazda 5)

"Rides surprisingly well for something that also handles so crisply."

    Jeff F., IL (2015 Mazda 5)

"Firstly, the car is a 2017 Mazda, not a 2015. However, on the year and model selector, the 2015 was the latest I was able to identify. I had a Mazda 5 2008 model year and was mostly satisfied with the way it drove and the flexibility the back seats allowing many useful configurations. The one complaint was that the seats were not comfortable on anything but short trips of 30 minutes or less. Although my wife and I looked at many other car makes and models we kept returning to the Mazda 5. It best met all our needs. The seats on the 2017 model are better than what we had before but these seats are also a step up in that they are leather and provide better support and seem more comfortable on trips on over an hour. The main factors in returning to a Mazda 5 are: entry to the driver and passenger seats are easy; the rear doors are "sliders" and consequently easy to use for other passengers or for stowing groceries; and, of course, familiarity with all controls and dials as there are not that many significant differences from the older model. So far, after 11 months, we are completely happy with our new Mazda 5 and I am unhappy that Mazda decided to cancel sales of this model in North America."

    Sandy F., BC (2015 Mazda 5)

"Seats are certainly comfortable but seat warmers (front only) are off or ON! So they can easily become too hot and need more attention than they should. But they work well otherwise."

    Steve S., BC (2015 Mazda 5)

"a bit on the noisy side, but I knew this from looking up a review on it."

    Anonymous, NV (2015 Mazda 5)

"I wish it had lumbar support which I had in my Volvo."

    Anonymous, CA (2015 Mazda 5)

"Reliable and comfortable ride and accelaration. A bit spartan when it comes to interior finish. Lack of inside lighting for window controls. Excellent car yet does not provide out of the ordinary general experience."

    JEAN B., NB (2015 Mazda 5)

    Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

    What Owners Say

"My second Mazda5. Gave the first to my daughter and bought another one. Not a fancy car but reliable and inexpensive to buy and maintain."

    Timothy A., VA (2015 Mazda 5)

"I bought this same car 10 years ago for the same price. And now it has more features."

    T B., NY (2015 Mazda 5)

"This was a Consumer Reports hidden gem. For under 15000 I got a nice used car still under warranty that is nice looking and very functional hauling stuff with great cargo space for a smaller van. Great visibility."

    RICHARD C., MO (2015 Mazda 5)

"Lots for cargo space, love the sliding side doors and under $20K."

    TIMOTHY A., VA (2015 Mazda 5)
