Yet the driver's wants aren't neglected, with responsive handling, taut body control and ample power from the E350's 302-hp V6. This car pampers and proves it can dance as well.

Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, oil leaks.

What Owners Say

Engine knock or ping

"On the way home, after taking delivery of my new Mercedes, the engine developed a misfire, disabling the car. The problem would go away and return. I took the car to MERCEDES-BENZ as it was miss-firing and they could not find the problem. This went on for years and they could never find the problem. The miss-fire faded away and now I have an engine knock upon start up that can not be diagnosed."

Anonymous, CA (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E550 4.6-L V8 turbo)

"MERCEDES-BENZ has problems with their direct injection. It can cause a misfire, failure of all cylinders to fire, which causes rough running and can completely disable the engine. MERCEDES-BENZ cannot find the problem. One time when my car was in for service to have the problem fixed, they gave me a loaner car which developed the same problem and became disabled."

Anonymous, CA (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E550 4.6-L V8 turbo)

"The engine developed a miss-fire [not all of the cylinders firing] and the check engine light came on before I could get the car home from the dealer. The second time it happened, I was near the dealer and drove it in to the service department with the engine miss-firing and the check engine light on so they could witness it. They parked the car, shut off the engine and let it sit for a couple of days. When they started it back up, they claimed there was nothing wrong. However, the problem c"

Engine mounts

"They wore out with only 36000 miles."

Anonymous, TX (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 3.5-L V6)
Oil leaks

"When I had the car serviced at the beginning of 2019, the MERCEDES-BENZ service advisor told me of an oil leak on both "camshaft solenoids". The repair estimate was over $1000. I had been suspicious about this advisor, since he tried to sell me new tires on a previous visit to replace tires that had many thousands of miles of life in them. I asked what was the worst that could happen, he said it would continue to leak onto a wiring harness, and at some point my check engine light would come on. I decided to wait to fix the oil leak. I did some research over the next year, and learned that this was a common problem on the 2010-2012 E class. So much that there was a recall, but it only went up to the 2012 model year...and mine is 2013. Just my luck. Fast forward to this year, 2020. When the car came up for service again, I decided to go look for myself at this oil leak...and oh my goodness there was a lot of oil on both sides of the front of the engine. The alternator was completely covered in oil. Still put off by the $1000 estimate at MB, I inquired at a very reputable independent MB shop. Ultimately they fixed it for about $350...which made me very happy. Apparently there are 4 oil seals, two on each side. Three were leaking."

Anonymous, NC (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 3.5-L V6)

"Valve cover gaskets failed and needed to be replaced"

Anonymous, NJ (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 BlueTec 3.5-L V6)

"Oil leaks were caused by dealer after unsuccessful attempt to address turbo boost warning light"

Anonymous, CA (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E550 4.6-L V8 turbo)

"My mechanic identified oil leaking onto various parts of the engine that required several parts (I don't know which) to be replaced. It was all done under an extended warranty that I had purchased years ago. I did not have tp pay anything. I had a rental car for the duration of the repairs - about a week - which was paid for by the dealership . I was satisfied with the service. The car had not been inoperable at any time."

Anonymous, FL (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 3.5-L V6)

"A mechanic discovered oil leaking from my car. A LOT of work needed to be done as the oil had leaked over several components on the engine bay. It took almost two weeks to complete. In many cases parts had to be ordered."

Anonymous, FL (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 3.5-L V6)

"fan making loud noises when used at low speed"

Edward F., QC (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E550 4.6-L V8 turbo)

"Intermittent stoppage of blower. No pattern, sometimes it’s on sometimes it’s not."

Billy P., CO (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 3.5-L V6)

"Apparently the blower motors have a bearing that rusts causing the fan to stop. In the winter condensation built up so much I had to drive -20C with the windows open. Hint, if you bang hard under the glove box it might work until you get it in for a replacement."

Anonymous, ON (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E550 5.5-L V8 turbo)

"Replaced all 4 brakes"

Anonymous, NY (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E550 4.6-L V8 turbo)
Parking brake

"The problem is the emergency/parking brake release. It becomes difficult to get it to release until eventually it can't be released. This is a $600 repair. My wife has a 2013 MBZ E350 sedan and I have a 2013 MBZ coupe. I had to have the repair once under warranty by 20,000 miles and my wife twice out of pocket by 40,000 miles. We also have both had problems with the engine transmission mounts and that is a $500 repair."

Anonymous, CA (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 3.5-L V6)

"I couldn't get the parking break to release completely. I have a coupe and my wife has the 2013 MERCEDES-BENZ sedan. My brakes were covered under the warranty but my wife's were a problem later. The repair was over"

Ralph S., CA (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 3.5-L V6)
Premature brake wear

"The MERCEDES-BENZ cruise control operates the brakes when the speed is higher than that set. When driving down the Grapevine coming out of Los Angeles (approximately 5 miles of downhill gradient) I inadvertently set the cruise control, forgetting this fact. The brakes were therefore on for the full 5 miles resulting in having to replace the front brake pads and rotors."

Anonymous, OR (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 3.5-L V6)
Pulsation or vibration

"Brakes feel like they are pulsing as they are applied, all the way to a stop. The problem got bad around 20k miles and MERCEDES-BENZ replaced some parts, telling me that the problem was a design defect and that they would repair them one time for free but not a second time. The problem has started again and is gradually getting worse. I expect I will have to pay for repairs again soon."

Anonymous, CA (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E550 5.5-L V8 turbo)
Squeaking

"The squeaking made me aware of the need to replace the rear brakes."

Anonymous, MD (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 3.5-L V6)

Body Integrity

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, loose or cracked seals and/or weather-stripping, air and water leaks.

What Owners Say

Squeaks or rattles

"Required replacement of Engine Mounts at 55k mi"

Anonymous, NC (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 3.5-L V6)

"The body welds at the rear suspension failed requiring a specialist from Germany to re-weld and add bracing. The car was damaged in the procedure and was not drivable for many months. Every attempt to repair it resulted in new problems being created. After 6 years MERCEDES-BENZ is still trying to fix what was my new car."

Anonymous, CA (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E550 4.6-L V8 turbo)

"Chassis and suspension failure! An expert came from Germany to re-weld and brace the rear bulkhead, because the factory spot-welds failed. They also had to replace rear suspension components. For the first 18 months I owned the car, it was in the shop for 9 months. Mercedes never gave me a loner car, while I was making payments on a new car that I could not drive. The car was returned to me with paint and interior damage! The problems are still not resolved! I consider this defect a safet"

Anonymous, CA (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E550 4.6-L V8 turbo)

"It started at about 34,000 and the head gaskets started leaking, but had exceeded the 4 year warranty. I had to pay for the repairs."

Anonymous, TX (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 3.5-L V6)

"Mercedes service noticed some modest engine oil leakage last fall (2016) when it was in for routine maintenance. I dropped off the car to correct the problem expected to take less than one day, It was under warranty (just barely) so they gave me a loaner. It took several days...remove the head(s) to replace the gaskets, etc. It has been good since then, but I can't imagine what it would have cost"

Barbara H., PA (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350)

Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, leaks.

What Owners Say

Muffler

"loud exhaust noise in cabin under acceleration when engine is cold. Condition persists until warm up. No abnormal exhaust noise or leaks observed from outside the car. Have not resolved the problem. Probably an issue the dealer will have to solve. Need to take out a loan for a service call, however."

Anonymous, GA (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 3.5-L V6)
Other/unsure

"control module failed, the mechanic advised that it is common for them to fail since they were not designed well and often suffer water damage. Apparently MB has redesigned them to avoid this issue."

What Owners Say

Rough shifting

"Ever since the car was new it had problems downshifting in the 10 to 20 mph range. It began with hesitation and surging, which would make the braking distance unpredictable and longer. Especially dangerous when stopping behind other cars. After computer updates, the problem still exists, but now the transmission can grind and one time it stalled the engine."

Anonymous, CA (2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E550 4.6-L V8 turbo)
