Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. The updated GLK is a small but posh SUV that's quick and agile. After a freshening for 2013, the GLK scored much higher than the original version we tested in 2009. It also got a revised interior that felt more substantial and luxurious.

Its tidy size, responsive handling, and good visibility make it easy to maneuver and handy in the city. The GLK feels solid on the highway, rides well for the most part and is quiet. On top of all that, it's extremely quick and gets a respectable 21 mpg. The diesel version got considerably better mileage, but without the brisk acceleration.

"Rear hatch would not open"

Anonymous, TX (2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK350 3.5-L V6)

"Received error for headlight, no indication of issue, turned out only to be burned out side bulb. This took some troubleshooting as the error message was misleading."

Conner K., GA (2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK350 3.5-L V6)

"One headlight bulb needed to be replaced; it was covered under warranty"

Anonymous, NY (2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK350 3.5-L V6)

Larry P., OR (2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK350 3.5-L V6)

"Key not detected"

Anonymous, TX (2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK350 3.5-L V6)

"My key will unlock the doors and then immediately lock them back. As you approach the car the lights will start flashing and the locks will go crazy locking and unlocking themselves. The last time I tried to use my key the panic alarm went off as I opened the door. It was unlocked as it is stored in a locked garage. My wife's key doesn't act up so we just use hers"

Martin C., VA (2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK250 2.1-L 4 Cyl diesel)

Anonymous, ON (2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK250 2.1-L 4 Cyl diesel)
Wiper motor or washer

"The driver's side windshield wiper stopped working during a rain storm. My car only had 49000 miles on it and it was just 5 years old. They said the warranty was expired. The cost to repair was exorbitant and I had to argue that this sort of item shouldn't fail on a car that barely uses the wipers. I live in Southern California. They did finally come down on the price. But I was without the car for 3 days because the part had to come from the East Coast and it was still raining."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK350 3.5-L V6)

"the system was not delivering the windshield washer fluid. the pump worked but there was a clog in the tank or the line"

Jacek K., CA (2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK350 3.5-L V6)

Anonymous, NM (2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK250 2.1-L 4 Cyl diesel)

"The front pads had worn out completely and required new rotors as well. An $850 front brake repair in less than 50,000 miles is excessive"

Earl S., CA (2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK350 3.5-L V6)

"Had to replace front brakes"

Anonymous, WI (2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK350 3.5-L V6)

Anonymous, GA (2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK350 3.5-L V6)

Fuel System

Michael H., NH (2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK250 2.1-L 4 Cyl diesel)

"The NOX sensors (2 of them) needed replacement. This was flagged via the check engine light and dealer inspection. Big bucks grudgingly covered by MERCEDES-BENZ after significant urging. The diagnosis was before the the 70,000 mile warrantee. The repair was done after the 70,000 warrantee, hence the warrantee issue."

Anonymous, AL (2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK250 2.1-L 4 Cyl diesel)

"The NOx sensors in the exhaust system were sending erroneous readings causing the Ad Blue system to overreact. The catalytic converters were poisoned and the exhaust system corroded. The entire exhaust system was replaced under my extended MERCEDES-BENZ warranty."

Anonymous, NY (2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK250 2.1-L 4 Cyl diesel)

"It actually was nothing but a broken hose, but cost about $500 to fix due to location"

"Even after pairing successfully, music from iTunes on the cell phone often stops for no good reason"

Anonymous, ON (2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK350 3.5-L V6)
Radio

"In early 2016 the whole command center went out could not be repaired, at that time they wanted $5,000 to put in a whole new system, this car cost me 57,000,this should not have happened,as a result of this I have no radio,cd player, gps, or back up camera. I would never buy another MB secondary to my current experience. The car running parts are fine, but the amount of money I paid for the car does not seem to in in sync with the problems I have unfortunately experienced."

It has a separate computer in the transmission which was the issue. They really do not work on transmissions, and simply sell you either a new or rebuilt tranny. It was in the shop for 4 weeks as they had to wait for some parts to arrive. This is highly unusual for MERCEDES-BENZ to have major engine or tranny work, but mine did. A big negative!"
