    Mini Cooper Clubman First Drive

    Introduction

The Clubman is a longer and wider version of the four-door Cooper and shares its platform with the BMW X1. The four-cylinder turbo is punchy and sounds sporty. Handling is quite nimble, but the ride is very firm and road noise is pronounced. Unlike the regular Coopers, the Clubman's backseat is habitable. Controls take some getting used to but ultimately prove logical. The rear view is compromised by the two rear barn doors. With typical options, the Clubman's price ascends quickly toward the $40,000 mark. All-wheel drive is available. For 2020, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection are standard, but blind spot warning is not available. The three-cylinder turbo engine has been discontinued.
