This shortened version of the Outlander SUV has reduced rear-seat and cargo space. Despite the name, it's not exactly a sporty SUV to drive. Handling isn't that nimble, and acceleration from the 148-hp, 2.0-liter engine is just adequate. A more powerful 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine is new for 2015. The Sport's choppy ride and very noisy cabin further undermine the driving experience.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"It is noisy and acceleration is slow and sounds like the engine is strained when accelerating up a hill."

John B., PA (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"Once break in mileage complete (7,500 mi), performance is very good. The CVT transmission is fantastic and the paddle shifters get the most from the car. Have crossed the Rockies at 75 MPH without strain. Handling is fine for the way I use the car. By way of comparison, my previous vehicle was a V6 Acura and this car achieves 90% of what the Acura could do in normal driving."

Anonymous, SD (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"My 39 yr old son doesn’t think it accelerates very fast going up the ‿on‿ ramp up not the highway near our home. I think honk it’s fine, but it is a bit slower than if it had a V-6 engine (which wouldn’t get the mileage I’m currently getting)."

Jennifer P., MN (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"Acceleration is extremely smooth and power is delivered on demand through the wonderful CVT transmission. The transmission does not wander through ratios and knows to keep power high under acceleration. It is especially great when climbing steep mountain passes. The 2.0 liter engine is just right for every day driving and returns better than expected fuel economy. The handling is secure and always provides the right amount of feedback from the road. Although I own a front wheel drive model, I have driven on several gravel and dirt roads and never been stuck. Turning is fairly sharp for a crossover."

Brandon D., NV (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"This car is timid in acceleration, it takes off slowly . Once you get moving past 30 or so it feels very solid and well footed. It is easy to drive but has very mushy brakes . I feel like I have to pump them every time I stop ."

Mitch D., IN (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"quick for a 4"

Anonymous, OH (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"Acceleration is not the greatest in the 2.0, but is adequate I have driven worse. Handling is not great and could stand to be improved"

Steve H., PA (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"Weak acceleration but only by comparison to other vehicles currently out there. It's actually perfectly adequate for real world situations."

Anonymous, MA (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"I got the smaller engine (4 cilinder) & I wish I would have gotten the 6 cylinder because I was used to the pick up of our previous car on accelerating into traffic on the freeways."

JENNIFER P., MN (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"Plenty of everyday power, almost surprising from 2.0 engine. Just as good as my previous V6 Acura for nearly all conditions. The CVT 8 transmission is great, smooth and efficient."

RICHARD L., SD (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Somewhat rough ride on older roads, some road noise while highway driving."

David A., PA (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"The seats and steering wheel are very adjustable and offer a great position to see out of all sides of the vehicle. The majority of sounds are dampened and a conversation can be held at normal speaking level even at highway speeds with wind noise. The ride is overall smooth and provides a good feel of the road while not being overly rough. This has helped with passengers who easily get motion sickness in cars as it helps them feel more planted to the ground."

Brandon D., NV (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"Noisy, hate the cvt transmission, not very responsive, but I should use the paddles, but I don't. Seats are low, it is just a little to small for me, seems to be boxed in. The ride is stiff, but it is a sport ride and handles curves well."

Patrick K., IL (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"Great driving position. Love the flap fold tailgate. Lots of room inside."

RICHARD L., SD (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"The car doesn't have enough room inside for my liking. I can't ride in the car with the windows down, especially at hi way speed, it hurts my ears."

CINDY J., MN (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"Climate controls difficult to use and to adjust. Always too cold and uncomfortable. Only issue I have with this car. Great stereo system!"

PETE O., NJ (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"very comfortable seats for long trips, vehicles cools down fast."

Anonymous, MN (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"There is no compass. Very annoyed. The back up camera has no sound indicators which I don't understand at all."

Anonymous, IL (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"I have a lot of problems with the automatic starter, altinator and cabled. I wouldn't ever buy another Mitsubishi"

John B., PA (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"It handles well, as it has a 4 wheel drive option, it is comfortable enough, and the heating and air conditioning are both strong and respond quickly."

Anonymous, IL (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"$30,000 car w/4wd, leather etc... I worked at the manufacturing plant and got a discount of about $24,000, still seemed high compared to others. I wished we bought a Ford Escape."

Patrick K., IL (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"I think cars in general are over priced, especially 4 wheel drive cars which are a necessity in snow country."

Anonymous, PA (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"Best value in the market for a small SUV. Have driven from western South Dakota to Chicago and Portland, OR, several times in comfort. $25K got me SE version with options. Incredible bang for the buck."

Anonymous, SD (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"We are retired and wanted an economic vehicle mostly for city driving and short trips. Satisfied with the vehicle, but know we gave up a few features for lower price."

David A., PA (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"SE model offers a lot of options for what you would pay for a base model in other competitive models"

Steve H., PA (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"a lot of standard equipment"

Anonymous, OH (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"Feature a lot for price"

FRANKLIN N., KY (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

"High depreciation due to current attitude towards Mitsubishi. Declining quality issues."

Anonymous, TX (2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport)

Percentage of owners who would definitely purchase that same vehicle again. Owner-satisfaction Ratings are determined by the percentage of those who answered "definitely yes" to the question asked by the Consumer Reports Annual Auto Survey "Considering all factors (price, performance, reliability, comfort, enjoyment, etc.), would you get this car if you had to do it all over again?". If we don’t have sufficient data, a similar model might be used to form the owner-satisfaction score.
