The Nissan Altima is among our better rated family sedans. The 2.5-liter, four-cylinder delivers better performance than some six-cylinder engines and an impressive 25 mpg overall. The 3.5-liter V6 is very powerful yet delivers 23 mpg overall. The 2.5 S has good handling and absorbs bumps better than the 3.5 SE, which is stiff and jittery, but corners better. Interior quality is very good, but rear-seat room is a bit tight.

Kevin H., TN (2008 Nissan Altima SL 3.5-L V6)

"The car is not aging well at all. I realize I live in a northern climate (salt) but this is the worst car I have ever had with this issue. Rusted through in a few spots, with rattles, etc. Aside from little things such as failed power window switches, etc. Just aging very poorly."

Anonymous, MN (2008 Nissan Altima S 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Many altimas I see on the road have this issue, but for me the paint on the hood, roof, and rear trunk lid is fading/failing, and is some spots there's no paint left, just rust or metal. The mechanics of the car are fine, but I'm embarrassed to drive it. I called Nissan and they hung up on me several times, refusing to stand behind their product."

Anonymous, GA (2008 Nissan Altima SL 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The paint was always a bit soft. Easily picked up rock chips on the hood. In last year noticing a very dull, hazy, faded appearance on the hood and a little on the roof. Tried polishing it out with compounds and waxes but nothing seems to work"

Anonymous, GA (2008 Nissan Altima S 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"There are rust on the roof by the driver side windshield, both rear wheel arches, lower front corner of front passenger door. "Water leak in the trunk"

"Clogged drain lines from sun roof"

Dennis S., SC (2008 Nissan Altima SL 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"We no longer use the sun roof because there's no easy way to determine if the sun roof drains are plugged except unpleasantly discovering the driver and passenger front carpets are soaking wet. The dealer has unplugged the drains several times but it never lasts"

Dennis T., UT (2008 Nissan Altima SE 3.5-L V6)

Renee G., KS (2008 Nissan Altima 2.5 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The car is much more noisy than it was even a year ago. The sealing around windows is very noisy."

Anonymous, CA (2008 Nissan Altima Hybrid 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Water leaking into front passenger door when it rains. The door literally starts to fill up with water. It took me a while to figure out where the sloshing sound was coming from. I can’t figure out how it’s getting in or how it gets out."

Mark W., CA (2008 Nissan Altima SL 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The rubber gasket that is supposed to seal the car's trunk had an opening and allowed outside water to leak inside, whether due to rain or car wash. This resulted in the interior insulation around the trunk to get wet, and the spare tire well to get flooded. I needed to pay over $250 for the shop to replace the weather stripping and dry out the interior of the trunk"

What Owners Say

Clutch replacement
