Despite a few high points, this iteration of the Nissan Altima is not competitive among midsized sedans. In a segment brimming with better cars, the Altima is a lackluster choice, ranking below virtually all of its competitors with a humdrum driving experience. Among its virtues are a roomy rear seat and good fuel economy. That said, with the standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder, we measured a commendable 31 mpg overall.

"Total failure of transmission at 72,000 miles. Dealer wanted $4,050 to replace-a huge amount of money. Nissan should have fixed the problems with this type of transmission instead of continuing to use them."

"90% of the miles on this car are rural interstate, recently the transmission went out while going down the interstate on cruse. Nissan not only would not help but charged what I consider an extreme price for a rebuilt transmission."

"at around 54,000 miles while i was driving back to San Antonio TX from Sumter SC as I was approaching Panama City beach FL as my first stop of the trip I noticed that during a quick stop at a rest are along the highway the car shaked when i was backing out of a parking spot. At the time i didnt think too much of it but as i approached my lodging location i had to turn around in a parking lot because imissed my turn and when I put the car into reverse it shut off. Tried limping it to the nearest dealer after starting it and trying to get it into gear without the engin shuttting down but i didnt make it very far and had to be towed."

"Nissan has a problem with the CVT transmission in this vehicle, which they are aware of. There was money being given to car owners because of the problem. However, because we had so many miles, we were not eligible for funding and the new transmission cost us over $3500. It upsets me because they were aware of an overall problem with the transmission and yet would not do anything to cover the expense."

Corrosion to the secondary latch may cause it to bind and remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed. If the primary latch is inadvertently released again and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
Summary:
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2018 Nissan Altima vehicles. If the primary hood latch is inadvertently released, there is an increased likelihood that the secondary hood latch may corrode over time.
What should you do:
Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will install a stronger release spring in the hood release lever, a warning label near the secondary hood latch, and an Owner¿s Manual addendum card with instructions on how to lubricate and maintain the secondary hood latch mechanism, free of charge. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk were mailed July 14, 2020. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. The remedy is expected to become available in July 2021. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Note: Recall 16V-029 remains open for any unremedied 2013-2015 Altimas and this recall applies to all vehicles covered by 16V-029 even if those repairs have already been performed.

If the front passenger seat occupant is misclassified, the air bag may deploy incorrectly in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

An incorrect Occupant Classification System (OCS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) may have been installed in the front passenger seat. The incorrect ECU and seat combination may misclassify the front passenger seat occupant.
What should you do:
Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ECU and update the OCS software free of charge. The recall began February 13, 2017. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES
Jan 22, 2016
If the primary latch is inadvertently released and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
Summary:
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Nissan Altima vehicles manufactured March 6, 2012, to December 31, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the secondary hood latch may bind and remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed.
What should you do:
These vehicles were previously included in recalls 14V-565 and 15V-116, however the previous remedy plan may not have been performed consistently to remove the safety risk.
