This version of the Frontier shares a platform and components with the larger Titan pickup and Xterra SUV. It is a big step forward compared to the old version. We found this Frontier quick and nimble with a tolerable ride. The powerful engine gives it a V8-like feel. The tight rear seat is a drawback and the tailgate is very heavy. Side- and curtain-airbags and stability control are standard equipment.

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2021 vehicles are holding up in 17 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical system. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

"Oxygen sensor I believe was the problem/"

    Robert D., AZ (2007 Nissan Frontier SE 4.0-L V6)

"There is some kind of smog control device that is mounted under the bed of the pickup. I live on a dirt road. The device chronically becomes clogged with dirt. It is a bad design for a pickup truck. The entire unit was recently replaced"

    "Defective canister near gas tank"

Anonymous, ON (2007 Nissan Frontier LE 4.0-L V6)

Anonymous, ME (2007 Nissan Frontier XE 4.0-L V6)

"Fuel gauge began reading E when tank was full, but would resume working when fuel level got lower. Problem became progressively worse until it always read E. Dealer then replaced sending unit in fuel tank and gauge began working properly."

James P., VA (2007 Nissan Frontier XE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"erratic fuel reading on the gas gauge. Fuel sending unit replaced. Had been a recall but missed it by 1 month. Nissan paid $400 and I paid $100 of total cost"

    Coil

"Coil is buried under air cleaner, and other engine parts. Truck never had a tune up, with 137000 miles on it. #2 spark plug gap was too large, worn out. Coil had to work harder to make spark happen, coil failed No youtube video to show how this is done. Cost was $300 labor, $200 for parts. Cars are engineered so the do it yourselfer cant work on it."

Cat material then sucked back thru exhaust, scoring cylinder walls on one bank (left), causing engine to burn excessive oil (about 2 quart per 1000 miles), requiring engine replacement. Could have been prevented if I had more proactively determined coil was bad, and replaced it"

"Radiator cooling line cracked letting coolant to mix with Transmission fluid"

Anonymous, TX (2007 Nissan Frontier NISMO 4.0-L V6)
    Rough shifting

"This problem surfaced within days of purchase and would reoccur occasionally but with decreasing intervals between occurrences. Was never diagnosed during warranty period because it would not happen when tested by a mechanic. The problem has never happened with the overdrive feature off, and the chattering symptom stops immediately by either further pressing on the gas pedal or by releasing and repressing on the gas pedal. It virtually never happens unless climbing a moderate incline. Its not difficult to deal with so I am wating for something serious to happen."

The part cost alone is $2500 and labor and tax came to $3300. I've always taken good care of this vehicle and service it regularly. It's disappointing that simple bearing could not be replaced."
