This version of the Frontier shares a platform and components with the larger Titan pickup and Xterra SUV. It is a big step forward compared to the old version. We found this Frontier quick and nimble with a tolerable ride. The powerful engine gives it a V8-like feel. The tight rear seat is a drawback and the tailgate is very heavy. Side- and curtain-airbags and stability control are standard equipment.

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2021 vehicles are holding up in 17 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical system. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

    Brakes

Antilock system (ABS), parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear.

    What Owners Say

    Antilock system (ABS)

"$4000 in repair parts and still not fixed. Variable code readings from multiple same part replacements. Parts replacing game instead of a diagnosis. Others tell me of the same expensive evasive fix"

Anonymous, MO (2010 Nissan Frontier SE 4.0-L V6)

"the light and 2 other lights come on on the dashboard when start the engine.........will stay on.......or when they don't come on all you have to do is put the truck in reverse and then will come on"

    Anonymous, FL (2010 Nissan Frontier 4.0-L V6)

"IT SEEMS THAT ALL THESE MODELS FOR THE YEAR 2010 HAVE THAT PROBLEM"

    Anonymous, FL (2010 Nissan Frontier 4.0-L V6)

    "VBS system would not engage"

    Anonymous, CO (2010 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X 4.0-L V6)

"2/2020 failure, 3/2020 Repair. The front ABS sensor(s) port oxidation caused sensor tolerance to change. This caused ABS pump pulsing/noise and slight brake pull. Due to age/oxidation hubs and sensors were both replaced."

Anonymous, NY (2010 Nissan Frontier SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Calipers

"one caliper on the rear brakes froze up producing uneven pad wear"

"Seemed to go thru brakes every year"

    Lloyd M., NH (2010 Nissan Frontier SE 4.0-L V6)

"The VBS system problem was diagnosed by the dealer as break wear. However, after the break overhaul the problem reoccured and I went to an independent shop that found a leaking breakline that I believe was the original cause of the problem and not break wear. This should be a black mark for the dealer and not the Nissan Frontier."

    Anonymous, CO (2010 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X 4.0-L V6)

"needed new brakes at about 30000 miles. I'm not a heavy braker"

"I absolutely LOVE my Frontier, but I have two cabin squeaks that just drive me CRAZY. I found one...the drivers side seat belt where it attaches by the console. Didn't squeak when new because there was a sticker on the part, but when the sticker wore thru it started to squeak and I had to put a small dab of grease on it...and then have to continue to do that about every six months (!). The other squeak I've not found, frustratingly, but I think it might be the other end of the seat belt attac"

    A K., KS (2010 Nissan Frontier SE 4.0-L V6)

"I live on a dirt road. The placement of the vent system for the fuel causes it to plug with dirt meaning I have to constantly replace the canisters. This usually has a cost of 300 to 500 dollars. Nissan does not have a fix for this problem. I will not buy another Nissan product."

Anonymous, KS (2010 Nissan Frontier SE 4.0-L V6)

"Catalytic converter and O2 sensors failed because of ignition coil failure. Replaced all cat converters and sensors on that side of engine that experienced coil failure."

Returned and diagnostics showed same code as originally. My mechanic did a full check and could not make a definitive diagnosis. They were able to get the lgt to go off so I am now keeping an eye on to see if it comes on again. No lose in mpg since new max air flow sensor changed & truck is running ok"

"It seems that the Nissan Frontiers have transmission and clutch issues. The transmission and clutch still don't feel right and give me no confidence. There is a rattle shifting between 1st/2nd and 2nd/3rd"

    SUSn G., NY (2010 Nissan Frontier SE 4.0-L V6)

"Clutch started slipping and got worse in a short period of time, thus requirimg replacement"

Anonymous, BC (2010 Nissan Frontier LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"i caused the problem by trying to pull another heavier truck that was broken down on my mountain uphill! and the women either had it park or was holding the brakes when i tried to start the pull(which i did complete). when i got going, i could smell the clutch ware. at that time it had approx. 80+ thousand on the clutch. it was still able to drive, but i could feel slippage, so rather than be broken down sometime, somewhere, i thought it'd be smarter to go ahead and do a clutch/throwout bearing replacement...which my room mate and myself did. i do NOT feel this was a Nissan problem...it was due for clutch replacement anyway and self inflicted."

Anonymous, GA (2010 Nissan Frontier SE 4.0-L V6)
