CR's Overall Mileage CR's Overall Mileage CR's overall mileage is a composite of measured fuel usage on a prescribed city course and highway cruising; and CR's 150-mile test trip of mixed driving, if tested. In recent road tests, we've discontinued the 150-mile trip test.
CR's City Mileage CR's City Mileage Measured fuel usage on a prescribed city course.
CR's Highway Mileage CR's Highway Mileage Measured fuel usage on a prescribed highway cruising.
Annual Fuel Cost Annual Fuel Cost The cost and amount of fuel used in 12,000 miles and is calculated from CR's overall mileage.
Greenhouse Gas Greenhouse Gas The Greenhouse Gas Rating represents the amount of carbon dioxide the vehicle emits compared to other vehicles of the same model year. This score from the EPA ranges from 1 (worst) to 10 (best).

Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Satisfaction Owner Satisfaction To learn about satisfaction, CR has collected survey data from our annual survey on more than half a million vehicles. Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

The striking, third-generation Nissan Murano serves up a decidedly premium interior feel. While the curvy, swoopy concept-car like styling impedes outward visibility, the Murano is otherwise easy to live with. Interior accommodations are generous, with easy access and mostly simple-to-use controls, including a well-designed touch-screen infotainment system. The plush cabin is impressively finished and quiet.

Although the interior might scream "luxury," driving the Murano proves to be rather mundane. Cornering is uninvolving and devoid of sportiness, limited by overly light steering that detracts from a driver's confidence on twisty roads. The Murano ultimately proved secure at its emergency handling limits, but it didn't shine. Likewise, ride comfort is decent enough but doesn't stand out.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2017 Nissan Murano owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"continually does not connect with usb cord."

Anonymous, MO (2017 Nissan Murano Platinum 3.5-L V6)

"One of the USB ports has ceased to function."

Anonymous, AB (2017 Nissan Murano Platinum 3.5-L V6)
Hardware replacement

"Head unit started to randomly freeze while vehicle was in use. Could not do anything on it as it was completely nonresponsive. Sometimes it would freeze so hard that it caused it to reboot while vehicle was operating. This all happened in two days. Took it to dealer and they said it was fixed after update. Got it home and immediately it started to happen again later that day. Took it back to dealer and they had to replace the whole head unit with new one. Was in shop for 4 days."

Anonymous, NV (2017 Nissan Murano SL 3.5-L V6)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"Does not record the miles and time accurately. On a trip of 0f 266 miles it said it was 324 mile and the time should have been 4 hours 49 minutes, it showed 5 hours and 55 minutes. I was told by Nissan that it operates as designed."

Gerald D., MN (2017 Nissan Murano SL 3.5-L V6)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"This is part of the Nissan Connect issue"

Anonymous, BC (2017 Nissan Murano SL 3.5-L V6)

"Problem was solved by a software update installed by the dealer at no charge."

John F., RI (2017 Nissan Murano Platinum 3.5-L V6)

"My phone pairs with the car's stereo system 98% of the time but it's very inconvenient when it fails to pair, for no apparent reason."

"Bluetooth connect is not reliable. Car disconnect from phone often."

Anonymous, MI (2017 Nissan Murano Platinum 3.5-L V6)
Radio

"When the car turns on, if it set to the SiriusXM channels from the last time I drove, they can take up to a minute to appear on the screen. Meanwhile the last channel still plays and I am unable to change the channel without changing to another band like FM"

Anonymous, IL (2017 Nissan Murano SL 3.5-L V6)

"Map update caused entire Radio/Nav to fail and need to be replaced."

Anonymous, TX (2017 Nissan Murano SL 3.5-L V6)

"The Satellite Radio had problems within the first 5 months of ownership. It was an intermittent problem and would take anywhere from 2 to 20 minutes to lock onto a signal. Displayed a Check Antennae message. After bringing it in for repair 4 times the local dealership technicians could not nail the problem down....to my frustration. Finally went out of town to another dealer that actually replaced the antennae which I still don't understand why it was not done in the first place and would have saved everyone time and aggravation. It took over a year to get it fixed and I was paying for a subscription to Siruis during that whole period."

Shaun M., NB (2017 Nissan Murano SL 3.5-L V6)
Routine software updates

"When I contact Nissan dealers which all changed ownership in this market about connectivity problems, they claim no updates or deny problems."

Anonymous, MO (2017 Nissan Murano Platinum 3.5-L V6)
