Measuring a foot shorter than the familiar Rogue, Nissan's new Rogue Sport gives customers a more compact, less family-oriented SUV, although one that's not inherently sportier. The smaller Rogue uses a pleasant, but not terribly powerful, 141-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a continuously variable transmission. It handles responsively and rides in a civilized manner, with cabin noise kept to reasonable levels; it feels more substantial than most of its subcompact SUV competitors, including the Honda HR-V. Rear seat room is a bit tight, though. The Sport offers an optional 360-degree view camera, helpful when backing into a parking space. Starting with the 2018 model year, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking will be standard.
