CR's Take
GM's latest attempt at bringing a large, rear-wheel-drive model from its Australian-based Holden division looks to be more promising than the previous offering, the GTO. The new G8 offers a 256-hp, 3.6-liter V6 paired with a five-speed automatic transmission in the base model and a 361-hp, 6.0-liter V8 with a six-speed automatic in the more powerful G8 GT. A six-seed manual is optional with the V6. The G8 has an independent rear suspension, and it rides and handles very well. Electronic stability control is standard. Front-side and head-protection air bags are also standard. Interior accommodations look impressive.
