Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2007 Pontiac Vibe owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Brakes

Antilock system (ABS), parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear.

What Owners Say

Normal routine brake wear

"Replaced pads and rotors - no complaints since have gone well past 299999 km which is all the odometer will record"

Tom L., ON (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"After 224,000 miles the original brake pads had finally worn enough that they needed to be replaced. We also had the rotors and calipers replaced at the same time."

Roy S., OR (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)
Premature brake wear

"Had calipers, brake pads, & rotors replaced at Midas. Substandard parts were used. All failed & had to replaced again."

Anonymous, (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"Aftermarket pads replaced after 1 year of service due to glazing not wear"

Mike A., ON (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"The brake system was starting to wear down. A representative from a local dealership advised me that repairs would be needed. New breaks were installed and the problem was nixed"

Joseph K., MI (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)
Pulsation or vibration

"The pulsating and vibration are a result of the inadequate hardware installed on the front wheels designed for braking as described in my previous explanation. The rotors are too small and too thin to meet the demands of this front-wheel drive vehicle."

Ron T., OR (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)
Rotors

"there is a design flaw with the rotors. They warp after about 10-15 thoUSnd miles or so. Because they warp they begin to pulsate and vibrate upon stopping, to the point where the entire car begins to shimmy or vibrate. I've changed the rotors at lea"

Ron T., OR (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"Brake rotors worn to service limit"

Anonymous, ON (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"Rotors warp after about 10 thoUSnd miles. The auto shop suggested we take it to a dealer, as there may have been a TSB. The dealer did the latest repair and it's too soon to tell if that solved the problem"

Anonymous, VA (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"Original rotors replaced in Oct 2013 with genuine GM parts. Then changed again in May 2014 & April 2015 with aftermarket parts. All due to warping"

Mike A., ON (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"I've replaced the rotors 4 times with the last replacement about 50,000 miles ago. I replaced the front stock rotors with racing rotors at 4X the cost of standard rotors to fix the problem of severe vibration when applying the brakes. The standard rotors and their replacements warp due to heat when the brakes are applied. The rotors are too small and too thin. It's an engineering mistake as the vehicle is front wheel drive with most of the weight in the front. The rear brakes are non-disc and the front are disc. The front takes up most of the braking responsibilities and are inadequate for the task."

Ron T., OR (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)
Squeaking

"Left rear break swelled when peddle pressed. A slight adjustment needed"

Allan A., NB (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"Brakes were getting old. Had to replace"

Thomas T., IL (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

Climate System

Blower (fan) motor, A/C compressor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate control, refrigerant leakage, electrical failure.

What Owners Say

A/C compressor

"The 2007 A/C barely works; it had been recharged a few years ago, but now barely works."

Anonymous, (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"AC compressor failed, was replaced with a refurbed unit"

Jayne S., VT (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)
Blower (fan) motor

"I can no longer switch between fresh air and recirculated air; it is stuck on recirculated. It is too expensive in terms of labor costs to investigate and repair"

Anonymous, (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"Stopped working on all but highest speed. A bit annoying but overall car has been very reliable"

Tom L., ON (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"The blower fan quit working. I bought a new one and replaced it myself"

Anonymous, CA (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"A small piece of rubber got into the blower making it noisy when in operation. The blender actuator also failed."

Anonymous, NY (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)
Condenser

"hole in condenser caused by stone on road"

Ted M., NY (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)
Refrigerant leaks

"Bad Schrader valve"

Anonymous, AZ (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"Very slow leak that eventually causes air conditioning to not work. Can not find source of leak. Has occurred for past two years."

Anonymous, VA (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"Slow leak(s). Repair facility could not find source"

G D., LA (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"My coolant system sprung a major leak. It was hard to judge from the reservoir how much fluid was even in the system. The dealer I was going to at the time failed to notice it for a year or so, and my engine overheated while driving on the freeway."

Anonymous, CA (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

Body Integrity

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, loose or cracked seals and/or weather-stripping, air and water leaks.

What Owners Say

Air or water leaks

"My 2007 Pontiac Vibe (Toyota Matrix) moon roof dripped water onto the passenger seat when I pulled out of a car wash. I know it was the moon roof causing the situation because I viewed various U-tubes about a leak of this kind. I avoided damaging the interior by pulling down things like the windshield trim, or headliner by learning from what others shared about this condition & how they handled it. To make a long story short, all I had to do was fully open the moon roof, stand on the door sill on each side & inspect if the cup of water I poured in, was accumulating & not draining from the front channel. It seems that a blast of gas from a computer dust-spray can-nozzle into each right and left side drain hole did the trick! I could "verify" that each side drain was functioning correctly, by watching around the rear of each front tire for the water to dribble out in that area. Through watching various u-tubes, I learned that over time, especially if one parks under trees regularly, stuff collects in the drain troughs that could clog them up. By picking the brains of a few "disaster" causing tinkerers, I learned how to avoid making a bigger problem than water dripping onto the front passenger seat! One U-tuber said the dealer gave him a $150.00 estimate to correct a leak like that. Oh, well."

Anonymous, NJ (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"Sunroof leaks water"

David C., PA (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"Plastic intake manifold has become warped with age and intake gasket is no longer sealing when at running temperature. The computer thinks the engine is running lean and dumps in more fuel to compensate. GM/Pontiac/Toyota (Matrix) no longer have intake manifolds available. If it were available I would not hesitate to have a new one put on because the car handles very well and got great fuel mileage when all was well."

Mark D., GA (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)
Seals and/or weather-stripping

"Sunroof leaks"

David C., PA (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"The moon roof would leak and hold water after rain and then drip slowly into the passenger compartment, or pour onto the passenger seat when turning. Yes, it is over 10 years old, but seals were replaced; inaccessible drainage tubes become blocked with debris."

Joe R., NY (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)
Squeaks or rattles

"My 2007 Pontiac Vibe started to rattle, underneath, when going over some bumps. It was from an aluminum heat shield that had pulled away from its' single rear-located mounting bolt. It seems that the "original" Pontiac shield holding bolt was embedded in a plastic clip that was snapped onto the right side fuel tank mounting strap. Apparently, the heat underneath "cooked" the plastic clip that had a metal nut embedded in it to the point that the nut actually pulled away from the plastic clip & stayed on the now free, & bouncing, heat shield, hence the rattle over some bumps. I must admit that watching U-tubes created by others, gives me a lot of different inputs to chose from, before I start any repair. In truth, some of the u-tubes show a "butcher" style that really shows what NOT to do! To solve this I noticed that one u-tuber said he got a new fuel tank strap from a Toyota dealer, after he talked about some goofy approaches to the problem, yet he did not show himself putting in "the Toyota part", nor did he give a part number which is what many do share. I went to a big Toyota parts dealer, by me & asked for a new right side tank strap. When "the strap" came in, it did not have any means to support the shield bolt? I said: this is nothing like my old one, what happened? I suppose it was the Parts Manager who directed the counterman on his computer screen, that I could not see. He took back the 1st strap and came back with another one that had a big upgrade to the shield-holding bolt method. Instead of a plastic-mounted nut, the 2nd one had an all-steel tab with nut, WELDED onto the strap! I made my thanks known. It wasn't cheap, around $85.00 total, but it is a permanent repair that should remain trouble free for a long time! And so it goes..."

Anonymous, NJ (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"An actuator motor in the blower system failed and has caused an annoying clicking in the dashboard. The cost to repair is prohibitive, since it has no effect on performance"

George P., PA (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)
Wind noise

"Poorly insulated against noise just like the Matrix"

Anonymous, TX (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"The airbag light is on and needs a new clock spring to repair."

Lee P., KS (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"First my driver airbag light came on. then GM issued a recall for the passenger airbag to be replaced and while being replaced was told the driver airbag needed a clock spring that was gonna cost almost $500 to be done at the dealer"

Brian W., NM (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"The clear coat is separating from the paint and bubbling up in places"

Anonymous, AZ (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

Steven W., TX (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)
Rust

"Just small rust picks from rocks along the top of the windshield. I had the roof painted"

Candice D., NS (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"rust spots were minor, I wouldn't have worried about them, but one rust spot was right at the junction of the windshield and the body, and the garage warned me that if it rusted through, ice could form in the gap between the body and the windshield so to avoid problems with the windshield I should get the rust spot fixed. Most rust spots were very small, all seemed to be due to stone impacts or such scratches"

Anonymous, MI (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"Three 'small' rust spots forming. Not addressed at this time. Each is less than 1/2" diameter. Two on roof near front passenger door. Third spot on hood of car - passenger side. Will fix myself this year"

Anonymous, NC (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

Anonymous, OR (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"Since 2012, I have had to replace the headlights on this car about 2-3 times a year. This is issue of bulbs going out is a main concern, but I believe the major issue is normal wear and tear on the vehicle. The car is over ten years old. Also, I do use my lights more regularly then others to stay visible to other drivers."

Anonymous, KY (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"We've had to replace the headlight WAY MORE often than normal AND because the factory lights give a completely inadequate amount of light to drive safely, we've gone aftermarket with brighter lights. Unfortunately, they too seem to burn out much too"

Anonymous, BC (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"I had to use by brights to turn the headlights on."

Anonymous, MI (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"I replaced the clutch at 180000 miles, which in my opinion is pretty good for a manual. It was getting touchier to shift, and because I had a long trip coming up, the garage suggested replacing it before the trip rather than chancing having it fail during the trip"

Anonymous, MI (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"developed leak and clutch failed"

Anonymous, MI (2007 Pontiac Vibe Base 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) notified the agency on May 13, 2015 that they are recalling certain model year 2004 Sequoia vehicles manufactured August 18, 2003, to August 19, 2004, and 2003-2004 Tundra vehicles manufactured March 18, 2003, to August 25, 2004. On June 16, 2015, Toyota expanded the recall to include an additional 1,270,468 vehicles, including model year 2002-2003 and 2005-2007 Sequoia, 2005-2006 Tundra, 2003-2007 Corolla, 2003-2007 Corolla Matrix, 2003-2007 Pontiac Vibe and 2002-2007 Lexus SC vehicles. This is to address a safety defect in the passenger side frontal air bag inflator which may produce excessive internal pressure causing the inflator to rupture upon deployment of the air bag. This recall addresses both the passenger side frontal air bags that were originally installed in the vehicles, as well as replacement air bags that may have been installed as replacement service parts. A replacement air bag may have been installed, as one example, if a vehicle had been in a crash necessitating the replacement of the passenger side frontal air bag.
