    Porsche Panamera Road Test

    Introduction

The Panamera offers the performance, agility and feel driving enthusiasts expect from a Porsche, but in a luxurious, roomy package with seating for four. Acceleration is smooth and punchy from the turbocharged V6 in our test car – in fact, you'd be forgiven for thinking it's a V8. The dual-clutch automatic transmission feels direct, sporty, and satisfying. Handling is terrific, especially considering this vehicle's size. While the ride is rock solid and steady, it's not particularly plush in the same way as other six-figure luxury sedans.

Still though, the Panamera coddles passengers in a spectacularly meticulous cabin, furnished with the best leather, brushed chrome and genuine wood. The firm, well-shaped seats are extremely supportive. The rear seat accommodates two adults nicely, but getting in and out of the low-slung cabin takes some youthful flexibility. The cockpit can be somewhat snug for some, and the cluttered controls tend to be confusing at first. A touchscreen controls most audio and phone functions and is relatively straightforward to operate. The hatchback design and folding rear seats add a measure of practicality.

The Panamera spans a wide price range and includes AWD versions, the super furious GTS, and even a plug-in hybrid.
