The Ram 2500 has undergone improvements similar to the ones the Ram 1500 received. With a coil-spring rear suspension it now has a ride that is more civilized than competing heavy-duty trucks. Chrysler's powerful 383-hp, 5.7-liter V8 is the standard engine, but you can opt for the powerful 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel. This strong-pulling diesel engine is not available on the Ram 1500.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"Very good acceleration and towing power. Transmission is clunky at times. Fuel economy is as expected."

Fritz A., MT (2015 Ram 2500)

"Power when and where you need it!"

Anonymous, MN (2015 Ram 2500)

"Very good ride for a 3/4 ton truck, not as good acceleration (especially when towing) as I would like."

Jeremy S., WA (2015 Ram 2500)

"The acceleration is positive and immediately responsive, without requiring flooring the pedal in the hills & mountains."

Anonymous, WA (2015 Ram 2500)

"The changes in suspension of the newer Dodges have been significant. It handles well and the acceleration leaves nothing to be desired. The in line 6 Cummins Diesel runs flawlessly and handles any tonage with ease. Keep in mind that if you go that route, it is not for day to day short runs. It is a pricey addition, but one I have enjoyed."

Robert R., VA (2015 Ram 2500)

"Cummins diesel is fantastic in both aspects."

John H., IN (2015 Ram 2500)

"The transmission often shifts roughly into second gear. The dealer tells me this is normal for this transmission. The acceleration and handling are very good for this class of truck."

William S., FL (2015 Ram 2500)

"Driving is great. Power is outstanding"

Anonymous, GA (2015 Ram 2500)

"The turning radius is outstanding and the acceleration is inspiring for a diesel engine."

ARTHUR N., WA (2015 Ram 2500)

"Solid feeling truck, handles well - MPG not as good as expected - Slight shudder in transmission when starting - Headlights are terrible"

JAMES S., MT (2015 Ram 2500)

"This truck replaced a 2011 Ford F-150 which had a superior ride and handling characteristics. Granted the Ford is a lighter truck with softer suspension, hence a better ride and more predictable handling; just miss these features in the heavier 2500."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Ram 2500)

"smooth quite better than expected gas miles per-gal tows great"

KAREN V., MO (2015 Ram 2500)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"For a big heavy duty 4x4 work truck, the Ram 2500 is very comfortable, very quiet, and a very nice vehicle to drive any distance."

Jeff T., WA (2015 Ram 2500)

"In the past 10 months I have driven across the U.S. 3 times. Seats are very comfortable. The seats can be cooled by a built in fan which really helps (they are leather) in hot weather. For a 3/4 ton pickup with a diesel engine I find the noise level very low and not annoying. The ride is, of course, a bit stiff but not jarringly so"

Anonymous, MD (2015 Ram 2500)

"The ride is increadbly smooth for any vehicle, and especially for a 3/4 ton truck. We use it for all of our long trips now. The road noise is minimal and the seats comfortable."

Robert R., VA (2015 Ram 2500)

"Comfortable, very cushioned sears are great. Firm lumbar support make these seats in the Ram even more comfortable and support my spine. Road noise is light to moderate - not too loud. Making phone calls over the unconnect speakers is a breeze and can be heard easily above any road noise. Road noise is negligible."

Kelly T., MS (2015 Ram 2500)

"Seats are great for the long haul. Noise level is very pleasant. Ride is as to be expected in a short well based 3/4 ton 4 wheel drive pickup truck."

John H., IN (2015 Ram 2500)

"Wide, comfortable, deep and driver/passenger friendly."

Anonymous, MN (2015 Ram 2500)

"The truck does have a stiff suspension. I find that lowering the tire pressure helps (below the max listed on the tire). The bed height is a bit high for 5th wheels and even with a heavy pin weight on the 5th wheel, the truck bed does not lower a lot. I do appreciate the large payload capacity."

James T., TX (2015 Ram 2500)

"rides smoothly at highway speeds unloaded and loaded. Very nice in a 2500."

Anonymous, VA (2015 Ram 2500)

"The seats are very comfortable, easy to adjust and fit my tall frame. Noise level is low and ride is exceptionally good for this class of truck."

William S., FL (2015 Ram 2500)

"Adjustable seats work good. A/C and heat in seats is good."

Bill W., NV (2015 Ram 2500)

"Seats are contoured and I am an older driver. I find with the contoured seat, when long distance and time setting, causes my hips to hurt. This is very uncomfortable and must use a cushion for comfort."

Paul N., NC (2015 Ram 2500)

"For an almost $50K vehicle, it doesn't have bluetooth for the phone. The fan speed diminishes without the AC being on."

LAWRENCE B., OH (2015 Ram 2500)

"Quiet, solid feeling truck - MPG not as good as expected - Slight shudder in transmission when starting - Headlights are terrible"

JAMES S., MT (2015 Ram 2500)

"The drivers seat doesn'the have enough lumbar support."

RICHARD M., NM (2015 Ram 2500)

"Large thick full grain leather heated and cooled seats with great position and lumbar support. Extremely comfortable"

JAMES C., OK (2015 Ram 2500)

"I have ankylosing spondylitis with a lot of spinal fusing and a level of pain at 3 or more 24/7. Riding in the Dodge supports my back and the ride is very smooth considering it is a truck."

ARTHUR N., WA (2015 Ram 2500)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"I shopped the Ram against the Chevy/GMC 2500, and the Ford F250, and found the Ram to offer the most bang for the buck by far."

Jeff T., WA (2015 Ram 2500)

"Got a great price on a special order truck from my local dealer in Jackson Ohio. The truck is everything I expected it rides like a car. It’s a 2500 with a diesel it gets great mileage and can haul just about anything I can hook onto it, either a gooseneck or with the pintle hitch towing equipment. it is very comfortable and my wife has no problem driving it. The four-wheel-drive works great. The only negative is I wish I would’ve gotten the bed camera but I still don’t feel that a $1200 rear camera is worth the investment."

Wayne A., OH (2015 Ram 2500)

"We bought the Tradesman level of the RAM trucks but it came with amazing technology."

Anonymous, AZ (2015 Ram 2500)

"everything works well. great nav pakage"

ERIC S., CA (2015 Ram 2500)

Styling
