The Ram 3500 mirrors the recent improvements that benefited the Ram 1500, but is much bigger and brawnier. Chrysler's powerful 383-hp, 5.7-liter V8 is the standard engine, but you can opt for the torque-rich 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel. That strong-pulling diesel engine is not available on the Ram 1500. There is also a 6.4-liter V8.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"Towing - 6.7l Cummins, Aisen transmission, 3.73 differential tows 22000lbs easily. Acceleration is very good, handling is very good and stopping power is reliable."

Anonymous, MN (2017 Ram 3500)

"Very powerfull 6.4 liter hemi engine. Great pulling power on hills when carrying & pulling VERY heavy loads. Carrying slide in camper it's very stable."

Charles S., GA (2017 Ram 3500)

"Excellent power from the Cummins, no problems from the emissions equipment thus far. Even under heavy load the truck pulls fine. Minimal body roll is present, handles heavy loads like they are not even there (10,000lbs plus)"

Vincent S., MD (2017 Ram 3500)

"The Ram has the 6 cylinder Cummins diesel engine and this engine has unbelievable power while towing big loads. The Ram is also a dully so there is absolutely no sway when towing large high loads in the wind."

Steve R., ND (2017 Ram 3500)

"Excellent acceleration with the cummins diesel motor, especially on such a large truck. Mpg is much better with the diesel too. Only complaint is the ride is really stiff, even for a 1 ton truck. I don't expect a soft ride but this is rougher than i expected."

Anonymous, NV (2017 Ram 3500)

"Great acceleration with Cummins diesel and handles well for a 1 Tom"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Ram 3500)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Comfortable seats, very low noise. Rides as you would expect a 3500 to ride when unloaded, bumpy. When it is loaded it smooths out."

Vincent S., MD (2017 Ram 3500)

"Nice seats but should have more padding since truck has stiff suspension, interior noise level is good, ride is good for 1ton on good roads but jars too much on rough roads"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Ram 3500)

"After driving our son’s 2005 truck with a straight pipe, noise was critical for us. Our 2017 is a quiet cab, meaning is is noise insulated and it is very quiet."

Westrum D., MN (2017 Ram 3500)

"Seats are comfortable for long trips. Acceleration is like a sports car. Fuel economy is very good for a truck. Turning radius is huge making it hard to park in lots."

Larry C., CA (2017 Ram 3500)

"This diesel truck is so quiet compared to other diesels. The seats are very comfortable. The ride is smooth yet powerful. I love this truck."

Cindy M., OR (2017 Ram 3500)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Enormous capability, solid motor, drive train."

A B., IA (2017 Ram 3500)

"The laramie package offers a lot of extras for the money. I plan on keeping this truck at least 15 years with the cummins diesel so it will be a great value."

Anonymous, NV (2017 Ram 3500)

"We got the features we needed to tow our fifth wheel RV and some extra features that make it a joy to drive and to tow our camper. Additionally, we really like the room that a mega cab has!"

Westrum D., MN (2017 Ram 3500)

"My only complaint is with the Navigation system. Dodge apparently uses their own system, and they don't update it, or if they do, they want you to pay a ridiculous amount of money to do so."

Kendrick K., AZ (2017 Ram 3500)

"Exceptional HD truck for the price. Thousands less than Ford or GM equal vehicles."

Charles S., GA (2017 Ram 3500)
