The Scion tC coupe is powered by a spirited 161-hp, 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine, with the choice of a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. Handling is responsive but not sporty, and the ride is pleasant. The rear seat is relatively spacious for a small coupe. The hatchback body style increases versatility. Oddly, the tC lacks a rear wiper. A costly, dealer-installed supercharger improves acceleration without sacrificing fuel economy. Head-curtain air bags are standard. The Scion tC is not recommended due to the lack of ESC and unimpressive IIHS crash tests. A redesign is due in early 2011.
