This revised version of the Scion xB looks like a cube and brings enormous benefits in terms of interior packaging. Hard to beat for interior volume vs. footprint, the xB has an enormous back seat and will easily accommodate three adults. Further, the spacious cargo area will readily swallow a week's worth of camping gear, while the tall stance and low floor also ensure easy access for everyone.
The 2.4-liter engine is relatively powerful, but fuel economy isn't stellar. A long ride in the xB can become rather fatiguing since it's not a particularly quiet car. Handling is lackluster, but ultimately very secure. Ride quality is rather stiff, but tolerable. It’s about what you'd expect from a utilitarian, inexpensive car.
While the interior looks somewhat cheap and flimsy, it's well constructed. But the small windows make the interior feel as dark as a cave and they restrict visibility. A rearview camera is optional. Odd, center mounted displays also take some getting used to.
The Scion xB is at its best as an urban runabout. It might even be a logical alternative to a small crossover SUV in some cases.
