At first blush the Subaru Legacy is a great all-around sedan, thanks to its standard all-wheel drive and reasonable price. But dig a bit deeper and you'll realize that is selling the car short. This is a car with very few compromises, effectively blending an excellent ride, responsive handling, a roomy and quiet interior, great visibility, simple controls, and easy cabin access front and rear.

Anonymous, QC (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"The car handles well, visibility is very good and the acceration is fair."

John D., FL (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"The 4 cylinder provides plenty of power and pep. AWD is a real asset in our area(the Ozarks). They tolad us the car has a low center of gravity, which I considered to be sales fluff, but it really does hold curves better than our previous car."

James J., AR (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Quiet and comfortable"

Bruno T., CT (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Corners effortlessly, accelerates much better than Accord, brakes crisply, ride is smooth, lane changes effortless"

Anonymous, IL (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"The 3.6 is a joy to drive with ample power."

Anonymous, WA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"The acceleration with 3.6R is surprisingly good & responsive in merging and passing. The handling is not as good as the Ford Fusion SEL I had before this Legacy. The steering wheel does seem to be as responsive and steady."

Anonymous, MA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Adequate acceleration for our use of the car, and very good handling"

Donald G., CA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"For a 4 door 4 cylinder car the acceleration and handling are very good and much better than my last two cars."

Clarke S., AZ (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"great handling, really fun car to drive"

Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Handling is excellent, comfortable ride and is much quieter than the 2015 Legacy. Acceleration is very good (this the 6 cylinder engine). Fit and finish is solid."

Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Rides well in heavy rain and flooded streets."

Anonymous, FL (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Very responsive acceleration and tight steering. Good over the road vehicle."

Anonymous, MN (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"It is a very responsive automobile and with the added eye sight is a very safe automobile."

Joanne M., PA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Overall it is a great car. Some reviewers have attacked its acceleration and handling but on the whole it is very good. (of course we are not 16 anymore). One handling issue that has been mentioned handling in turning sharp corners where the car is supposed to have excessive lean. In normal driving the excessive leaning does not happen, HOWEVER we experienced it once and it was peculiar. In going around a corner at higher speed than was prudent - my wife was driving - the car excessively leaned to the outside of the curve. My take at it was that it was a safety feature that helped dispel centrifugal force when going around the corner to fast - I looked at it as a safety feature because the car did not go toward the right side of the road. It only happened that once. Acceleration if not terrific but not terrible. For a passenger car, not a sports car, it is fine."

Anonymous, NJ (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"The driving assist you get with the EyeSight system is my major reason for the purchase. It adds so much safety I feel so much safer."

D K., UT (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Gas pedal is sticky"

Anonymous, PA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Great, smooth transmission and acceleration"

Anonymous, CA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Our previous Legacy was a 2012. We would have kept it but our son needed a car and this was perfect for him. However, the new one has much improved engine response and somewhat better handling. The electronics are also updated, but Android auto is still a work in progress, I'm afraid."

Anonymous, CT (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Adequate acceleration and handling, great gas mileage, very good adaptive speed control, tracks well."

Anonymous, WV (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"I have already answered this in the last section. It accelerates and handles almost like a sports car."

Joseph S., ME (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"6 cyl. drives like my old car, peppy and quick"

Anonymous, PA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"The Electronic eye system. You set the curse to your MPH and set back and almost let the car drive itself. Slows down when auto is in front of you then automatically speed back to my MPH as I pass or the auto leave my lane."

Darwin E., IN (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Weak in horsepower (in 4 cylinder), needs better acceleration,"

Jerry T., TN (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Accelerates quickly and smoothly. Steering very responsive"

Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Enough power and stabilization achieved during acceleration needed in adverse driving conditions."

Jorge O., NJ (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Acceleration acceptable and AWD in the snow."

Anonymous, OH (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"This 3.6R is a wonderful car in the Colorado Mountains and for every day use. Love the Eye Sight feature for cruse control for speed and the distance for the car in front of you. Comes to complete stop if need be without pressing a pedal. This car handles beautifully! It is truly a pleasure to drive."

Stuart H., CO (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"We drive a lot on steep curvy mountain roads and this car feels like it is glued to the road. It handles this terrain beautifully, feels very solid and is forgiving if you over steer or drive a little too fast. This car is fantastic!"

Anonymous, ID (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Smooth, responsive and a fun drive"

Sheri B., AZ (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Great acceleration, and good road handling. Comfortable ride on highway and dirt road."

Anonymous, MT (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"The safety features are excellent. The car is very responsive to my commands."

Anonymous, IA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Handling- this vehicle seems to float down the road. Road vibration is almost imperceptible."

Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"We were concerned about acceleration after reading reports about the lack of horsepower. But it accelerates just as well as the Accord and Camry both from a start and when passing."

Anonymous, MB (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Very good ride overall, and all wheel drive is of great comfort in the frequent heavy rains experienced in Florida."

Robert L., FL (2018 Subaru Legacy)

Anonymous, QC (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Driver's seat is very comfortable with the power seat allowing for many adjustments to find the right position. Ride is very smooth and the car is very quiet except under full acceleration."

John C., VA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"We have taken this car on several road trips, including a 1,000 plus round trip to Toas NM from Denver. Very comfortable ride in our 3.6R with Leather seats."

Stuart H., CO (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Seat comfort and ride quality are outstanding. There is some road noise but not sure if it is result of the tires installed or due to the car design itself. Nevertheless, the car is a joy to drive and very comfortable during extended times behind the wheel."

Paul G., CA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Excellent seats. The quiet and ride of a luxury car (much better than my brother’s Mercedes)"

Dan I., MI (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Ride is excellent but front seat comfort and noise level could be better. My previous vehicle was BMW X1 which was much noisy (5dB more) and the ride was uncomfortable. I purchased the 6 cylinder version and what you get for the money is difficult to beat"

Mehmet A., NY (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Very good lumbar support, good noise isolation and comfortable ride."

Jorge O., NJ (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"The seats are as comfortable as my previous car, a V2015 Volvo S60 which surprised me. The noise level is low and the car rides and handles well. No complaints"

Thomas B., OH (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Extremely comfortable especially on long rides. Excellent lumbar support. Very little road noise, very smooth ride. Great handling and cornering."

Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"After a long trip you don't feel like you've been beat up."

Susan M., FL (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Quiet, low wind noise, good seats, smooth ride."

Anonymous, WV (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"The driver seat could use more padding. The fabric on the seats (cloth) does not seem very durable. I didn't notice the quality of the fabric until I started using the car. This is new for Subaru. With my past vehicles, the fabric was durable. I don't like leather (nuviny or whatever)l because it's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Just because you don't want leather seats doesn't mean you should have to settle for cheap fabric. I'm disappointed."

Anonymous, MD (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Better than my Ford Fusion"

Anonymous, CA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"it's comfortable very quiet and smooth"

Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Very quiet at high speeds. Smooth ride on rough roads."

Earl T., NY (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Quiet and spacious feeling"

Robert B., CA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Comfort and size of the driver’s seat and quality of ride are as good or better than more expensive AWD sedans"

Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"My wife is diminutive and has suffered numerous illnesses and injuries. Her 2007 Mazda and my 2002 Lincoln did not provide a soft, shock-absorbent ride (as she frequently let me know). Unbelievably--esp. after CR's praise of the Legacy's "exceptional," superior ride--the car feels stiff and hard, even to me. The leather feels like hard plastic and the seats are wide enough to accomodate 2 people. It's built like a tank with every safety feature, but it's not a car I enjoy driving or look forward to taking on long trips of several hundred miles. Do I need to encourage her to get a bigger car--perhaps, a Chevy Impala--in order to experience a ride that's an improvement over a 2007 Mazda's ? (I've recently noticed that the Legacy, which has appeared near or at the top of CR ratings for the past four years, is rated at the bottom of U.S. News Car Ratings. (As far as the ride is concerned, I'd have to agree with U.S. News.)"

Anonymous, WI (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Access and seating position are very good for a sedan. Much better than the Camry and Accord we test drove. Its very quiet and the ride is stable."

Anonymous, MB (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"This vehicle is by far the quietest vehicle I have owned I find the ride to be more like an upscale sedan. The seats are firm but comfortable"

Leo A., CT (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"relatively quiet, smooth ride"

Anonymous, ON (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Love the seat heater"

Anonymous, PA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Comfortable seats, low noise level, and reasonable ride on our poor streets."

Donald G., CA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"It is fully equipped with the necessary safety and navigation features (eyesight system, etc.),has leather seats and handles exceptionally well in dry, wet, icy and snow conditions. It is a very comfortable and quiet ride. The price, considering all its features, is most reasonable."

Joseph S., ME (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Love eyesight safety package; can't beat it"

Anonymous, IL (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Compared to Honda Accord and Toyota Camry, I received same features for less money."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Compared to other vehicles in this price range, I got AWD and an automobile with a good reputation."

Robert K., OR (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"The Subaru Legacy Premium trim level is such a deal. Sticker well south of 25k. Everything but leather and a sunroof, neither of which I want."

Dan I., MI (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"includes many of the features you pay thousands more for in an upscale luxury brand. Outstanding value in my opinion for the technology delivered. Legroom in rear and trunk space very good. Front seats could be more comfortable."

Anonymous, MN (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Prices seem to vary greatly from dealer to dealer, so you need to do your homework and know what you want before going to a dealer."

Jerome C., WI (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"One of the better values for a large 6 cylinder sedan with the "eye sight" technology."

Howard K., FL (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"My new 2018 Subaru Legacy (other than a few issues with the seats) is a dream. I love the handling, I love the sound of the engine, I love the ride, I love the color (Twilight Blue). I love how the engine is laid out to make routine maintenance easy. I bought It for the all-wheel drive. I have had 4-wheel (all-wheel) drive Subarus since 1990 for the safety in driving during inclement weather. I feel that overall I got a lot of value for my money. The Starlink is complicated to learn how to use and like all new skills, using the backup camera takes some practice. At my age, learning all this new stuff is taxing, but like they say, and it's true with your mind, either use it or lose it. Overall, I feel I got a lot of value for my money."

Anonymous, MD (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Priced right with full set of options included"

Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Best car I ever drove.Acceleration, handling, cornering all excellent.Sound system top drawer.Trunk space more than adequate. We were disappointed with our Honda Accord & did not buy it after lease expired. We bought the Legacy 4 months into the lease."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"best cost and quality for all wheel drive"

Anonymous, HI (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Car is the Premium trim with Eyesight and the sticker price is approximately $27.5K. We got almost $5K off the sticker price plus got Zero Percent financing for 60 months. Total out the door price was just over $24K."

John C., VA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Great vehicle, but the voice commands and navigation do not work well."

Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"The Subaru Legacy Limited is rich with technology and is feature packed. I find to be a tremendous value. Competing cars from other manufacturers with similar features are thousands of dollars more. I love this car and now I'm thinking about buying another Subaru for my son."

Paul G., CA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"It's got all the features you could possibly want for less than 30K."

Susan M., FL (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"It drives very well, the safety features are excellent. It handles very well and the mileage is good."

Anonymous, IA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Best combination I could find for safety features and performance in the price range."

Anonymous, GA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Size, quality, all wheel drive and overall value for the money."

Anonymous, OH (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"For what we got the nearest competitor was over $10000 more and was not as good as the Subaru."

Anonymous, WA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Felt cost was ABOUT RIGHT FOR WHAT I WANTED."

Anonymous, DE (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"So many safety features for the money. Other manufacturers charge much more for these safety features."

Anonymous, MA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"No other car could touch the amount of standard items including all wheel drive as well as the safety and convenience on the Legacy at a price remotely close to it"

Thomas B., OH (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Compared to Ford Fusion before purchase. Subaru provides all wheel drive for same price Fusion commands for just two wheel drive."

Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"It was the end of the model year and because of limited supply, we bought a model with 2 features (moonroof and navigation) that we will use seldom if at all."

Anonymous, CT (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"With steep dealer discounts, Legacy premium at $23K was no contest with Camry and Accord."

Robert B., CA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"YOU GET ALOT FOR YOUR MONEY"

Bob M., CT (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"all wheel drive, safety pick + , safety features, quiet and smooth ride,"

Anonymous, ON (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"I am quite impressed with all the safety equipment included in this car for the price. I had enough money to buy the top of the line model, but cheaper levels still included most of the equipment. I am new to driving in the northwest and like the all wheel drive."

Nancy P., CA (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"I like many of the safety features included in this top of the line model but I think these should have been standard on lower trim models as well. Like with many cars, I was forced to buy items I did not want such as leather seats and a moon roof. The Harmon-Kardon audio system is boomy at times (which is not easy to adjust), is generally no better than the stock system, and lacks that system's multi-band equalization. The car also had a spoiler that cost over $300 and that is neither functional nor visually appealing."

Anonymous, NY (2018 Subaru Legacy)

"Planned to buy another Camry (have owned 2) but don’t like 2018 re-design. Legacy just as comfortable a ride and better value for the package I got, especially safety feature (Eyesight)."
