    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2023 Subaru Legacy owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Android Auto

"Android Auto often fails to connect wireless and only works with a cable."

Anonymous, NJ (2023 Subaru Legacy XT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Apple CarPlay

"Almost everytime I drive and use my iphone, the calls are dropped at some point. Sometimes backing up,other times just driving."

Anonymous, NY (2023 Subaru Legacy Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Display screen freezes up

"The response of the touch screen is so painfully slow it it becoming dangerous to use it while driving. This is problematic because most vehicle controls are buried in sub-menus that may take several seconds to appear. The latest software update has crippled SiriusXM. It is no longer possible to preset channels in SXM. You change to a different channel and all the presets change to the same channel. This is a poor and careless software update process."

Anonymous, NJ (2023 Subaru Legacy XT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"There seems to be significant lag between when the screen "button" is pressed and when the display responds to the press. This is especially noticed after the car is started, but does on a more rare occasion occur at other times as well. I have not yet scheduled an appointment with the Subaru dealer regarding this "lag" issue."

Anonymous A., IA (2023 Subaru Legacy XT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"Paired my iPhoneSE with the car's network, and it works fine for initiating/receiving voice calls, but cannot initiate/receive texts, even when in Park. Dealer could not get this to work either; just "living with it.""

Anonymous, (2023 Subaru Legacy Sport 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The Subaru DCM (data control module)has failed. It is what allows remote access to the remote start, remote climate control, remote door looks as well as vehicle locate function VIA the Subaru application. Without a functioning DCM all of these functions will not work! I have owned this Legacy for one year. A Subaru phone tech representative spent considerable time with me over the phone and worked with me to identify the issue/problem. This DCM failure has been an issue for the last 7 months. I have not yet scheduled an appointment with the Subaru dealer for the repair."

Anonymous A., IA (2023 Subaru Legacy XT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"When coming to a stop the engine should shut off. Sometimes it works and then it won't work for a week or so. Then it starts working. I'm glad this electronic junk is not in Voyager."

Anonymous, WA (2023 Subaru Legacy Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Over-the-air software update failed

"Was notified by e-mail that there would be a software update, but was not able to verify that it installed when I followed the instructions. As it turned out, the dealer had to install a new data communications module [under warranty] -- there was apparently a service bulletin about this, but no recall."

Anonymous, (2023 Subaru Legacy Sport 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"phone pairing just stopped working. I had to redo the pairing."

Anonymous, WA (2023 Subaru Legacy Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.
