Subaru Solterra

Latest Model

2023 Model Redesign Year
Subaru's first-ever EV is essentially a rebadged Toyota bZ4X. It has a functional small-SUV interior and comes with front and rear motors to form an all-wheel-drive system. But the 2023 Solterra we tested managed to drive only 210 miles during our 70-mph highway-range test, which is notably shorter than rival EVs. The 215 hp (233 hp for 2026) its motors produce is also less than the competition, but the power is smooth and predictable. With a weak 6.6-kilowatt (up to 11 for 2026) onboard charger, home charging is on the slow side. A maximum acceptance rate of just 100 kW at DC fast charging stations is also skimpy.
It's raised to 150 kW for 2026. Handling is agile, and the ride is mostly comfortable. Oddly, there is no glove box or rear wiper, and the instrument panel is positioned far away from the driver, which can take some getting used to. For 2026, the Solterra was refreshed with revised exterior styling and improvements to its power, range, and charging speed. A new XT trim was also added which has 338 horsepower and EPA estimated 288 miles of range.

2023-Present

2023 Model Redesign Year
The Solterra is Subaru's first-ever electric vehicle and is essentially a Toyota bZ4X. It comes with front and rear motors to form an all-wheel-drive system. It has a functional small-SUV interior, but its estimated range of 222 miles is shorter than the competition's. The power is smooth and predictable, but with 215 hp the Solterra is behind the competition. Handling is agile, and the ride is mostly comfortable. Oddly, there is no glove box or a rear wiper.
With a weak 6.6-kilowatt onboard charger, home charging is on the slow side. DC fast charging in public places, with a maximum acceptance rate of 100 kW, is also on the skimpy side. AEB with pedestrian detection, AEB highway, BSW, and RCTW come standard. For 2026, the Solterra was refreshed with revised exterior styling and improvements to its range and charging speed and an EPA-estimated 288 miles of range thanks in part to a larger 74.7-kWh battery. The Solterra's DC charge rate has been upped from 100 kW on the outgoing model to 150 kW. A NACS (Tesla-style) charge port is also standard, allowing owners to use Tesla's Supercharger network without an adapter. A new XT trim was also added which has 338 horsepower.
