The Camry is a comfortable, refined, and quiet sedan offering a pleasant driving experience. Access is easy and controls are intuitive. Its comfort, room, and quietness suggest a larger, more expensive car. The four-cylinder engine is particularly smooth and refined. Stability control and side curtain airbags were optional on higher trim lines, making the Camry one of the first family sedans to offer these safety features.

Gerald C., CA (2004 Toyota Camry)

"I have the 6 cylinder model and it has plenty of power and acceleration."

Anonymous, CA (2004 Toyota Camry)

"Acceleration is excellent, but response tends to be sluggish at times. It performs well but does not inspire confidence."

MANUEL P., TX (2004 Toyota Camry)

Anonymous, CA (2004 Toyota Camry)

"The accelleration was never as acute (sensitive, responsive) as I would have liked. But, it's a four-door full size and it is only a four cylinder, so maybe this has something to do with it. After 12 years, it has lost some of it's "take-off" speed. I do buy cheap gas."

MARILYN W., MD (2004 Toyota Camry)

"This Camry has a lack of traction on the front wheels. It often will spins the tires on a start-up."

PAUL L., CT (2004 Toyota Camry)

"This Camry has always had a tendency to surge upon acceleration."

STEVE N., MS (2004 Toyota Camry)

"I had to drive straight for 14 hours and my back wasn't even uncomfortable"

Anonymous, ON (2004 Toyota Camry)

"Brakes softer than I like.. Very comfortable ride."

Anonymous, ON (2004 Toyota Camry)

"It handles like the Titanic but fortunately will never be directed by James Cameron. I never knew the lag when you punch engine at nearly any speed was a defect, until I read the submissions to the DOT re: recalls. Given the p/w ratio hard to understand that any emergency acceleration will likely take 2-3 seconds to actually work. Takes corners badly, takes bumps of any kind poorly. Front air deflector (covers bottom if engine) scraped pavent on flat street at 20 mph and broke attachment point"

Anonymous, CA (2004 Toyota Camry)

"The 4cyl engine has enough pep to easily accelerate into traffic."

EDWARD M., NY (2004 Toyota Camry)

"Very comfortable on long trips."

Anonymous, LA (2004 Toyota Camry)

"Dependable"

Anonymous, FL (2004 Toyota Camry)

"Handling is abysmal. It's easy enough to keep on the road and you could say that its incompetence encourages attention and careful driving, but I wouldn't bother. Well, you don't buy a Toyota for it's precise steering, road feel, and handling competence, do you? Acceleration is bad and the V-6 was a waste of money. 2004 was the year they put in the 5-speed automatic and it's a terrible, intractable. No sense to the gear changes, it only stays in 2nd gear for a second or two, might as well n"

FREDRICK S., MD (2004 Toyota Camry)

"When new to almost 200k miles great acceleration for a 4 cylinder, great gas mileage and reliability, great handling, quiet easy to drive car, little brake work and oil changes, changed the plugs myself, original everything except the fly by wire throttle control which cost 1k to replace, am still driving it even though it does need new shocks."

DAVID B., IA (2004 Toyota Camry)

"The best handling car I have owned, being a V6 with a little tighter and beefed up suspension this car is easy to control and has good great stability in accident avoidance. I prefer the handling (almost sporty) to the softer handling of the 4 cylinder. The accelleration is phenominal ! Gas 32 mpg at 75 MPH."

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

Anonymous, IL (2004 Toyota Camry)

"Seats are high and firm; they are a little short for thigh support. I use a gel cushion to alleviate sciatic nerve pain- primary due to the short seats. The ride is firm, but comfortable. The cabin is very quiet-probably because the V6 engine and drive train for the SE V6 model uses the same hardware as the Lexus automobile."

"The car has been very reliable and it still delivers around 32-33 mpg. It has a very good heating system also."

Anonymous, RI (2004 Toyota Camry)

"The noise level has increased with age. When the vehicle was new, the ride was much quieter. Some wind noise is noticeable now, and the engine is becoming noisier during hard acceleration. The seats are still very comfortable for all-day driving, and the ride has not deteriorated even though the vehicle still has the factory original shocks at nearly 160K miles and after 15 years of ownership."

Ruben R., FL (2004 Toyota Camry)

"My Camry's seats are about as comfortable as they could possibly be. Passengers always comment on the comfort of the seats. The seats are the SE sports seats. My ex-wife's 03 Camry's seats were not as comfortable. The SE sports suspension is awesome, firm but not too firm. The noise levels were excellent until a few years ago. 15 years in the Las Vegas heat and the door seals are starting to leak wind noise, but that's to be expected."

"For what we paid, we've never had any major repairs, or breakdowns. It fits 5 people all their stuff and still can tow a trailer."

Alexander L., CA (2004 Toyota Camry)

"the car is 14 years old and it still runs great. I have not had any repair expense over 250.00. Most of the expenses have been for regular maintenance. I take my care to the dealer where I bought the car and they let me know if something needs to be done above the regular maintenance. I will probable buy another Camry next time."

"I purchased a Special Edition 2004 Camry. It had some features that came with the LE edition, and a few that did not. Those features were: Cloth seats, Special tortoise trim on the console, 16 speaker JBL system, and the standard white pearl paint offered on the Lexus model cars. When I compared prices of other vehicles with the same features, the price was considerably higher. Also the warranty that came with my Camry wasn’t the best from the other vehicles such as the Honda Accord."

Carla M., CA (2004 Toyota Camry)

"I have never had any problems with this car. It handles very good for an elderly person."

Patricia W., NC (2004 Toyota Camry)

"Camry has been a good buy for us. Although we are over 100,0000 miles, the car continues to run like a top, be a comfortable ride, and look good. Very few maintenance issues over the life of the car."

Anonymous, NC (2004 Toyota Camry)

"This is a great car but at around 265000 miles some parts began to fail. I replaced the radiator, voltage regulator, starting motor, and at 270000 miles I replaced the engine with another engine which had 90,000 miles on it. This car handles well and rides smoother than my Jaguar Vanden Plas. Acceleration is excellent. I will replace it when the time comes with another Camry."

Frederick S., FL (2004 Toyota Camry)

"This vehicle was purchased new in December 2003. Maintenance costs have been remarkably low, and the vehicle still looks good and drives good. I consider those attributes to constitute great value for my money."

"I bought this car new and have only had one failure that I considered unexceptionable. The sunroof got stuck in the open position about ten years ago and cost $2,300 to repair. It has never broken down. I still enjoy driving it and like it’s styling. Considering it’s age I’m currently shopping for a used 2018 Red Camry LE Hybrid."

"Lot's of power from the V6 yet I get around 24MPG. 15 years and 160K miles later I've had absolutely NO major repairs. Just the regular maintenance items, oil, tires, brakes. When it was time to change the timing belt I did have them change out my water pump and idler pulley, just because it made sense to do it. The cars still runs like new with no drop off in power or mileage. I do run Amsoil to give my engine the best protection possible."
