What Owners Say

"Terribly underpowered, dangerous when merging."

J P., MD (2012 Toyota Camry)

"This is my wife's car. She complains about the larger than normal foot movement she has to make from accelerator to brake. She is 5'3" tall. Secondly, she really dislikes the sun visors: she says they are too small because they allow too much sunlight into driver's face. That all said, this Camry runs well for me; she is less enthusiastic. Years ago, She had a 2002 Honda van that she loved..."

Jerome W., VA (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Great: With V-6 engine, acceleration is phenomenal."

Brian R., CT (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Not as quick on acceleration as our 2016. But it gets me there."

David M., FL (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Smart acceleration, competent handling make for a solid, stable, and safe ride."

Cary H., AL (2012 Toyota Camry)

"hesitates when it accelerates, drives roughly. has done this from the beginning. dealer says it is normal, but it doesn't feel normal."

Ted A., CA (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Acceleration is very good for a 4 cylinder and handles very well."

Anonymous, PA (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Steady driving, consist response."

Anonymous, PA (2012 Toyota Camry)

"The Campry is a smooth riding and handling car. I really like the drive. The only negative is that the car accelerates kind of roughly when trying to speed up to get on the highway or pass people."

John H., MO (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Acceleration is uneven - sometimes the engine winds up fast and other times annoyingly slow. Shifting is also a bit uneven. Once moving the car is fine. The handling is fairly routine, nothing exceptional but not bad."

Jerry M., MA (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Handles well for a sedan, acceleration average, corners well."

"Great fuel milage and totally trouble free"

FRED F., NM (2012 Toyota Camry)

"very good pickup, excellent handling"

BEVERLY C., CT (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Abrupt acceleration from stop; difficult to control smoothly; cruise control acceleration can be abrupt on hills(I attribute this to the gearing of the 4 cyl engine); I often disengage cruise on long uphills to avoid abrupt gear changes; handling feels safe but the suspension and high tire pressures give a bumpy ride over small road irregularities"

Anonymous, KY (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Great power. Smooth ride. So comfortable to sit in and drive in. I love the cruise control mechanism and controls."

DALE M., OH (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Has times where acceleration does not kick in at low speeds"

BOB R., TX (2012 Toyota Camry)

"handling and comfort"

Anonymous, MD (2012 Toyota Camry)

"With regard to acceleration, at varying times and under differing circumstances, our 2012 Toyota Camry will hesitate shortly after driving forward after stopping. This issue happens only a few times per month and the roadway condition (up hill, down hill, flat surface) does not seem to have an effect."

"I went down to this 2012 Camry with a 4 cylinder engine as my previous 2009 Camry had a V-6; but I am amazed at the acceleration of the 2012 Camry!"

BRIAN A., TX (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Toyota sedans ride comfortably but are a little "soft". I typically prefer a stiffer, sportier suspension. There is nothing wrong with the suspension in the Camry, simply a matter of preference."

Anonymous, MA (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Acceleration has decreased as the car has gotten older, but it was never exceptional to begin with. Handling is fine, but it seems to have a wide turning radius."

Anonymous, FL (2012 Toyota Camry)

"This car is very quick and makes driving exciting. It's not bothered by hills, passing or merging onto the highway."

FRED F., NY (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Acceleration is just fine; however, there is some lag to the automatic transmission on passing or quickly accelerating while moving. The transmission is one of the things I like least about the car; but then, I'd much rather be driving a manual."

DONALD M., MA (2012 Toyota Camry)

"modest 4 cyl engine power (as expected)"

JEFF M., MN (2012 Toyota Camry)

"easy on and off highways and accelerating around and about truck traffic."

Anonymous, NY (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Driving to Florida,,very comfortable, smooth.....gas mileage 6.7"

DOUGLAS C., ON (2012 Toyota Camry)

ROBERT B., NY (2012 Toyota Camry)

"very good"

FRANK H., OR (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Disappointed with acceleration. Car vibrates at about 40 mph and I have to push the car faster to overcome this. Took to dealership but issue is not fixed."

H B., IL (2012 Toyota Camry)

"The low profile tires are noisy and do not ride well. they have 'cupping' causing low speed noise. Wish it had older type tires."

DALE B., IL (2012 Toyota Camry)

"handling on curves is scary its noisy poor acceleration"

Anonymous, ON (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Acceleration is terrific with 6 cyc. and 6 spd trans. Handling/ Steering is vague comparted to my 05' Honda Accord. Overall still a great car so far."

BARBARA S., OH (2012 Toyota Camry)

"1. The turning radius could be smaller. 2. Visibility could be much better when backing. i.e. thickness of supports."

MICHAEL M., CA (2012 Toyota Camry)

"The ECO system causes a pause before acceleration, There are times it came be as much a 3 or 4 seconds"

GERALD W., OH (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Acceleration is awesome. Toyota packs a lot of power in their 6 cylinder 3.5 liter engine. Makes driving fun!"

TOM W., FL (2012 Toyota Camry)

"The acceleration is very impressive for a sedan in this class."

WADE I., MN (2012 Toyota Camry)

"At times when you have come to a stop and try to accelerate to blend into traffic this car hesitates when you give it gas!! It's most apparent when you are rolling slowly or stopped on an on ramp and try to get into traffic."

LARRY H., WV (2012 Toyota Camry)

"It's not its fault. The car has a small engine, but I wish it had more umph."

DONNA W., NC (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Power, ease of handling and smooth driving"

Anonymous, NV (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Acceleration is a problem. In heavy traffic when needing to make a quick lane change there is sometimes absolutely NO response when accelerating hard. I consider this to be a safety issue. The dealer did a software upgrade, which seemed to help for a little while. The next time I mentioned it they said it was a common problem associated with the anti-lock brakes."

"Overall, very good handling and great acceleration. Two minor issues sometimes, on wet surfaces, may spin a second from stopped to accelerate- this could be tire issue and doesn't happen a lot. Also when using auto speed, if highway has hilly areas, notice some delay in car maintaining set speed. My last camry (a 2002 model) did not do this."

"The hybrid drive provides excellent milage, and also provides instant torque for power when needed for great acceleration."

Philip L., MD (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Very peppy for a 4 cylinder"

Anonymous, NE (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Acceleration is very good, especially given the size/weight of the vehicle, and it being a hybrid. The 200-net HP and low end torque of the electric motor combined with the planetary gearbox's ability to quickly drop the ratio for maximum gas-engine power provides a surprising amount of pull even at speed. Almost every passenger who rides in this car is very surprised at the snappy response and surprising acceleration available at a moment's notice. Handling is phenomenal given the size and weight of the vehicle. With the traction battery positioned behind the rear seats, the weight distribution is very well balanced. Hard cornering is confident and smooth. Of particular note for me is the steering feel on this vehicle. Despite being an electric-assist system common to most newer vehicles, it remains one of the few options that still has a moderately firm steering feel with a good amount of road-feel (very similar to older hydraulic assist systems). Before I purchased this vehicle in 2017 I noticed many of the other vehicles I test drove had very numb and extremely light steering feels, which I did not like at all."

Robert C., ON (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Power--for a 4 cylinder engine, this car has a tremendous amount of power. It can take off from stop that it is almost like a bullet. The other thing I really enjoy is that it can turn around in a very small space."

"Leather seats somewhat uncomfortable for long drives. Difficult to get a just-right position, and I find myself regularly changing the position around to see if I can find the perfect position. Noise is quite well dampened, especially with CR's top-rated UHP All-Season tires, the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+. Wind noise is entirely within reason even at highway speeds, and it's easy to maintain a conversation at normal volume. Powertrain is quiet as well, noticeable only under heavy acceleration. Some people may dislike the "CVT sound" produced during that acceleration, but it doesn't bother me at all. Ride is comfortable, but not mushy, and is somewhat stiffer than previous Camry generations. Still keeps things well under control on the bumpy pothole filled roads we get during the spring thaw in Canada, without feeling too harsh."

This deprives a good feel of the road and leaves the driver concentrating too much on directional stability. I do not like it at all. "Our Camry lets a lot of road noise into the cabin. I bought new quieter tires and that helped. The seats, air conditioner, and controls are very good. It is a joy to drive. One other thing is design of instrument panel, the plastic above the radio flat on the dash reflects the sun and makes it hard to see out the windshield, wearing polarized sun glasses fixes this."

What Owners Say

"I bought the Corolla first but traded it in after 3 months. The Camry was a much bigger, sturdier car with almost similar mileage. The price wasn't that much more either. A far better value. The Sonora was the only other I considered and it's rear/side vision was too limited/obstructed."

The angle of the screen makes it impossible to see half the time due to the blinding glare and it took two years for Toyota to fix the fact that the system was also faulty. "Both the cost and the performance of the hybrid falls between that of the 4 cyl and 6 cyl versions of the Camry. But you get the added bonus of much better gas mileage plus you are getting a generator on wheels. During Super Storm Sandy I attached an inverter to the car and it supplied the electricity to keep some of the lights on in my home, plus my refrigerator, and some small appliances running for 4 days on less than a quarter tank of gas."

"For what you pay, you get a very reliable car that provides a very good overall driving experience."

Anonymous, AL (2012 Toyota Camry)

"The old adage, "pay me now or pay me later" is so true in car purchases. You spend more for a Camry than you would for an "American" auto. You get far more value. My daughter still drives my 2001 Camry. It still runs well and looks good! For those who want to buy "American", the government records show that the Camry is the most "American" made car in the world. Meaning that "American" brand cars are mostly imported from Mexico and Canada!"

"129000 miles with only routine maintenance. No brake changes - maintenance according to the book. Just a great automobile."

William J., MD (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Just this week my left rear brake caliber seized up at 66000 miles. This is the first time I have had a problem like this, especially in a fairly new Camry in which all service to date had been at Toyota. The Customer Service for Toyota would not offer any compensation because I had repair work done at a local garage. We have had 2 other Toyota’s and never had a premature safety failure like this. I have filed a complaint with NHTSA. I am concerned that Toyota quality is declining."

Anonymous, NY (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Very good value. I bought a "sleeper" hybrid -- the LE. I did not want a lot of bells and whistles, and the car doesn't even have a dashboard computer. That's fine. Because it was a leftover (purchased 2/2013) from the2012s, the dealer bent over backwards to drop the price until I bought. It was already a pretty good purchase at $25,000 new, but I bought it for $22,000, unconcerned that it was already past the model year, because we keep our cars until they are completely worn out -- we hope to get 200 - 300,000 miles on them."

Anonymous, VA (2012 Toyota Camry)

"After nearly 6 years and 55K miles of trouble free and relatively comfortable driving, I am still happy with this purchase. I average about 37 MPG and regularly exceed 40 in my daily commute. I chose this vehicle for it's expected reliability and safety and it still delivers both on a daily basis. I plan to drive my Hybrid for at least another 5 years and expect only routine maintenance expenses until then."

Anonymous, NY (2012 Toyota Camry)

"I have driven this car for six years and I have never had to deal with any system failures. I change the oil on time keep it clean and keep up with its maintenance. The gas mileage on the car is fantastic, Especially if you only use it to drive around town and not on interstates. I have seen this car gets 40 miles per gallon in the city, and as much as 40 miles a gallon on highways. I drive 50 miles a day and only have to fill my tank every two weeks."

Amanda B., TN (2012 Toyota Camry)

"Everything still functional after 123K miles, it still feels like our new car."

Anonymous, FL (2012 Toyota Camry)

"For the premium paid for the hybrid I don't know it was worth it in fuel savings. Of course gas doesn't cost as much as it did when we bought it. I like the hybrid, it has good acceleration and is very comfortable on long trips. You do get a certain satisfaction at the pump or when someone asks you what kind of mileage you get."
