Toyota Corolla Cross

Latest Model

2022 Model Redesign Year
The compact Corolla Cross is fuel-efficient, particularly in hybrid form. Available with front- or all-wheel drive, the standard powertrain is a 169-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired to a CVT. The AWD-only hybrid makes 196 hp and is the better version. In our tests it returned an impressive 41 mpg overall. The standard Corolla Cross feels slow, but at least it manages a decent 28 mpg overall. Both versions suffer from excessive engine noise during even moderate acceleration.
Ride and handling are competent but unremarkable. The simple interior feels a bit stripped-down, but the controls are easy to use and the rear seat is fairly roomy. BSW and RCTW are unavailable on the base trim but standard on the higher trims. A mild refresh in 2026 brought new styling and larger screens on the interior.

2022-Present

2022 Model Redesign Year
The Toyota Corolla Cross debuted for 2022 and fits in the gap between the Toyota C-HR and RAV4. The configurations are simple, with a choice of front- or all-wheel drive. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 169 horsepower matched to a continuously variable transmission is the standard powertrain. All-wheel-drive hybrid versions were added for the 2023 model year and have 196 horsepower. The Corolla Cross managed a decent 28 mpg overall in our test of the all-wheel drive non-hybrid version. This five-seater does embody many Corolla virtues, including a strong roster of safety equipment that counts FCW, AEB with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and automatic high beams as standard.
Blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert are standard on midlevel LE and top XLE trims. A mild refresh in 2026 brought new styling and larger screen options on the interior.
