What Owners Say

12V battery

""In February I had to get the car jump started because the battery was depleted. Took it to the dealer who tested the battery. He said the battery was OK and said we were probably driving it for short distances too much and not giving it a chance to be recharged. This was reasonable considering most of our driving is in the city, the winter was quite cold, and we had been using the heated seats and steering wheel a lot. (However we have heated indoor parking.) The dealer recharged the battery. All was well until a few weeks ago when I put the car on accessory mode to listen to the radio and within a few minutes got an alert saying Low Battery Turn Power OFF. This happened several more times so I took it back to the dealer who tested it again and said the battery was only 40% charged. Again the battery test said the battery was OK. At his request I returned and left the car for several hours during which he said would restore the battery "health" whatever that means. (The battery test had shown the health was good.) I returned the car on May 25. Just before leaving the car with the dealer I put it in accessory mode and turned on the radio. Within a few minutes I got the same Low Battery alert so it seems the battery doesn't charge properly. I drive the car enough so it should charge ( 1000 km/month). Through testing for parasitic drainage, he found that a driving monitor I have plugged into the OBD2 port for my insurance was drawing 0.081 amps which might be draining the battery. This may be so but I use the car most every day so it should recharge with driving. I will be calling the service manager to discuss this as it seems there is something wrong. I posted my story on a Facebook CCH owners group and looked on Reddit and found 9 other people have similar problems. The consensus is that the CCH has a very small 12 V battery. I don't think this is a problem with other Toyota hybrids so don't know why they would put a deficient battery in the CCH. I like the car a lot but feel apprehensive about using it in the Canadian winter. I also discovered that Hyundai hybrids have "12 volt reset" button that will recharge the 12 V battery from the traction battery if needed. Toyota should have this. I hope to talk to a Toyota rep directly to see what they say, so this isn't done yet. All service calls have been under warranty so no charges.""

""12V battery had to be replaced due to severe degradation attributed to low mileage and Toyota Canada balked at paying for replacement for a vehicle under a year old. After a 6-week fight, the dealership eventually returned the vehicle without requiring me to pay for it. I also have 6-year Extra Care extended coverage so this situation was completely inexplicable to me.""

Anonymous A., ON (2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid XSE 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
Other electrical system problem

""We are old and drive little. The 12 volt battery requires regular charging, so we had to jump start the care every time we drove. Finally, the dealer replaced the battery, and now I run the car for one hour a week to charge the 12 volt battery. The car is unsuited for people who don't drive every day.""

Anonymous A., CA (2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid XSE 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

What Owners Say

Other/unsure

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

What Owners Say

Shocks or struts

""At 6 mo. warranty inspection I pointed out a sound that resembled one from a strut problem I'd had on a previous car, andf learned that the strut mounts had failed, requiring significant repairs. This is not supposed to happen, strut system is supposed to last the life of the car. Have appointment (under warranty), but had to wait more than a month because dealer forgot to call me when the parts came in, not good - struts can be a safety issue.""
