Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

"Will happen on cold mornings and eventually unfreeze"

    In-dash navigation system (GPS)

""The radio and navigation system just stopped working and needed to be replaced. The dealer had to order a reconditioned one, which took nearly 2 months to come in. Then we needed to leave the car overnight (they provided us with a loaner) for them to exchange the old one and install the reconditioned one. We had to reenter all of our previous settings.""

Anonymous, PA (2017 Toyota Highlander XLE 3.5-L V6)
    Radio

    "Radio system kept rebooting"

Anonymous, KY (2017 Toyota Highlander XLE 3.5-L V6)

"Radio was stuck on one channel when display screen froze"

Anonymous, NY (2017 Toyota Highlander XLE 3.5-L V6)
    Speakers

"Music sounds flat and lacks depth. The speakers in the front doors aren't engaging and we suspect the infotainment system isn't relaying the sound properly. We were really looking forward to the JBL sound system but it's frustrating that we can't take advantage of it. The only reason we haven't swapped out the infotainment system is because we LOVE the backup camera and worry we'd lose the quality of that if we switch things out."

Anonymous, UT (2017 Toyota Highlander Limited 3.5-L V6)

    What Owners Say

    Master cylinder

""On start, brake failure notification, pedal soft or on floor. After start notification goes away. Research indicates it's related to vacuum brake system. Two Toyota dealers have said no error codes and vacuum pump is operating correctly.. Undermines confidence in an otherwise excellent car. 2018 models were recalled because of vacuum pumps.""

Anonymous, LA (2017 Toyota Highlander XLE 3.5-L V6)
    Regular brake failure

""Less than 3 months after buying it and 3000 miles the brakes failed completely even though the vehicle was Toyota Certified and the Superior, Wisconsin Toyota dealership where we bought it said the brakes were no longer covered so "beware" buyers!""

    What Owners Say

    12V battery

"At times the car would shut down completely after a stop like for a stop sign. Noticed that the battery terminal was loose. Took it to the dealer and they recognized that during the Pre-Owned Certification process they placed the wrong battery for the vehicle. The car has auto on/off and requires a specific battery with different size terminals. It took two trips to the dealer for them to recognize the problem and they replaced the battery and the terminal for the correct versions. The dealer covered all the work."

Anonymous, OH (2017 Toyota Highlander LE Plus 3.5-L V6)

""The automatic headlights turn off while driving.Sometimes all of the power to the car stops for a second when the lights flick off. Other times the lights turn off. The manual light stays on. What Owners Say

    Glass defects

""The windshield replacement for this vehicle, requires "recalibration" of the sensors. I'm not sure what sensors those are, and I certainly can't see any, but it'll add at least $300 to the replacement cost. Meaning it's nearly $1000 to replace the windshield all in. For a part that you can expect to need repairs or replacement regularly in a country that puts sand and gravel on the roads in the winter this seems like a money grab""

    Anonymous A., AB (2017 Toyota Highlander Limited 3.5-L V6)
    Other body problem

"Noticed drivers seat leather stress marks appearing 1 year ago and in last year progressed to leather splitting. Inquired about seat failure under our warranty and was Toyota is not covered and to replace was very expat. Weve owned Toyotas for over 30 years and never had that happen in our prior vehicles. Thought it should covered under our warranty."

    Anonymous A., FL (2017 Toyota Highlander XLE 3.5-L V6)
    Sunroof

""The panoramic sunroof isn't a smart choice, but you don't get to opt out of it when you want the other options in the Limited trim. Mine recently exploded while driving the car. Apparently it's tempered glass only. For something that's part of the vehicle and can't be driven if it's broken you'd expect either a 3M type of coating like they offer with the hood/door cup etc. or laminated glass like a windshield has so it can be repaired. The cost to replace this is nearly 3x the cost of a new windshield for the vehicle. With only 39,000 km on this vehicle, it's unacceptable to have to replace something like this.""

    Anonymous A., AB (2017 Toyota Highlander Limited 3.5-L V6)

    Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, fuel leaks, oil leaks.

"Leaks from front and rear driveshafts"

    Anonymous A., IN (2017 Toyota Highlander XLE 3.5-L V6)

"Rear main seal gasket leaked oil and needed to be replaced. This simple part replacement requires engine removal and was quite expensive - I paid 2500 out of my pocket. Rear main seal gasket is not supposed to fail at 126000 km."

    Anonymous A., AB (2017 Toyota Highlander Limited 3.5-L V6)

    Engine Cooling

Radiator, cooling fan, water pump, thermostat, antifreeze leaks, overheating.

    What Owners Say

    Water pump

""Water pump broke and required replacement. No advance warning the pump if failing. If not caught in time, it would have destroyed the engine. Toyota didn't help""
