Based on Toyota's Tundra pickup, the Sequoia's main attributes are an impressively smooth and punchy powertrain accompanied by a vast, interior, impressive towing and solid off-road capability. It rides better than the old Sequoia, but still feels truckish. Handling is clumsy too. Fuel economy is respectable for the class, but isn't great.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

“Drives like a truck and not an SUV”

Anonymous, CA (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

“For a large SUV the vehicle drives like a dream. It has exceptional acceleration and long lasting parts not like GMC products that fail after 6000 miles”

RICHARD H., NC (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“Drives better with heavy load, i.e. 4 or more adults. Wanders and floats at highway speeds when single adult.”

EUGENE G., CA (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

“The Sequoia comfortably holds many people and lots of gear. I can climb around inside the vehicle to help my kids get situated, which I do all the time when it's raining, snowing, or blisteringly hot outdoors. Our 2 Husky dogs can also ride comfortably in it. So much space and a great layout!”

SUZANNE E., CO (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

“illumination of all dash components is very difficult to see. Red color makes it worst.”

DONALD M., NY (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

“I knew it to be an expensive vehicle but thought that was a trade-off for added quality. I was not prepared for the frequency and expense of repairs versus the two Ford Expeditions I owned prior.”

ARTHUR M., GA (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

“Very comfortable ride, great in bad weather, the 4 wheel drive comes in handy.”

ROGER W., MO (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

Percentage of owners who would definitely purchase that same vehicle again. Owner-satisfaction Ratings are determined by the percentage of those who answered "definitely yes" to the question asked by the Consumer Reports Annual Auto Survey "Considering all factors (price, performance, reliability, comfort, enjoyment, etc.), would you get this car if you had to do it all over again?". If we don’t have sufficient data, a similar model might be used to form the owner-satisfaction score.
