Based on Toyota's Tundra pickup, the Sequoia's main attributes are an impressively smooth and punchy powertrain accompanied by a vast, interior, impressive towing and solid off-road capability. It rides better than the old Sequoia, but still feels truckish. Handling is clumsy too. Fuel economy is respectable for the class, but isn't great.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"No problems with the handling"

Roger W., MO (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Very responsive and powerful engine especially useful driving a large vehicle in the mountains. Handling is excellent for a large vehicle and very stable."

Anonymous, CA (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Good ride, driving position. Good relative turning radius for truck platform."

P H., TX (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Powerful V-8 Engine allows to pull my 21 ft Bass Boat with ease. 4 Wheel Drive helps on steep ramps and off road."

Norberto R., NC (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Power and acceleration. Michelin Defender are the best tires for this rig (ride wise), otherwise can be a little "floatie" with 1 or 2 people on board, handles great with 6 or more adults though."

Eugene G., CA (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"The 5.7L V8 has amazing acceleration for its size. When you press the accelerator pedal there is an immediate response, very fast and very smooth. I can merge and pass easily which is especially great on long road trips for getting around larger slower vehicles. It also has a very small turning radius which is great for parking lots or other right spaces - easy to make U turns on standard city streets."

Anonymous, TX (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Drives like a truck and not an SUV"

Anonymous, CA (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"For a large SUV the vehicle drives like a dream. It has exceptional acceleration and long lasting parts not like GMC products that fail after 6000 miles"

RICHARD H., NC (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"powerful vehicle, easy to drive and handle, works great in heavy snow"

W K., CA (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Sold feel with lots of power."

Dave B., BC (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"handling is OK. Acceleration is jerky."

Carson S., CA (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"It is big enough to do what I want like towing, caring seven passengers yet still gets relatively good mileage."

Anonymous, ID (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Lots of power. Seats extremely comfortable. Handles well especially with a load."

J D., NJ (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"It is very responsive while accelerating"

Dieter P., AZ (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Very poor audio system in basic SR5 model, would go for upgrade option if available. Power seat option would be nice, if having multiple drivers."

Eugene G., CA (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"It tows our travel trailer extremely well. I feel confident when pulling a trailer."

Anonymous, UT (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Great acceleration, handling and feel of the road! The DOHC 5.7 liter engine and six-speed automatic transmission combination is a fantastic match. Even with 183,000 miles it feels incredibly powerful and responsive."

Jim S., NY (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Seats do not give as much lateral and back support as I would like. Ride, AC, and noise levels excellent."

Anonymous, CA (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Very comfortable seats for driver and passenger . 2nd row seating is extremely roomy and just as comfortable as the front row seating. Very smooth ride and very quiet."

Anonymous, TX (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Seats are very comfortable. Ride is adjustable based on type of road conditions."

Douglas Y., OH (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"It is a nine year old vehicle, it is still as comfortable as when we bought it."

Roger W., MO (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Roomy, seats very comfortable. Noise attenuation is par for this type of vehicle."

Norberto R., NC (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Poor instrument lighting. Body rust is emerging after only 65000 miles. Electric window mechanism rusted out after 50000 miles."

Donald M., NY (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Drives better with heavy load, i.e. 4 or more adults. Wanders and floats at highway speeds when single adult."

EUGENE G., CA (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"The Sequoia comfortably holds many people and lots of gear. I can climb around inside the vehicle to help my kids get situated, which I do all the time when it's raining, snowing, or blisteringly hot outdoors. Our 2 Husky dogs can also ride comfortably in it. So much space and a great layout!"

SUZANNE E., CO (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"illumination of all dash components is very difficult to see. Red color makes it worst."

DONALD M., NY (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Well I feel like I am driving through the clouds in comfort. The seat are large, climate controlled and I feel like I am in a lazy boy recliner. The ride is fantastic, smooth, great control and I do not have plans to get rid of this vehicle anytime soon."

Anonymous, NC (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"The Sequoia has a truck like feel yet is an SUV. Large towing capability and lots of power with the 5.7 litre engine."

Dave B., BC (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"This body style is still in production today. This vehicle has excellent passenger comfort, good visibility, excellent climate control. This is the LIMITED so leather seat covers adds to comfort, electric seat adjustments help too. Large center console has generous storage, and ride comfort and road noise control are outstanding."

K M., LA (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Supportive, comfortable seats for people of all sizes in front and middle rows. Even the 3rd row is comfortable for adults for trips of an hour or less. Seats in 3rd row are perfectly suited for kids for trips of any length. Vehicle noise is as expected for a truck with a 5.7L V8 engine. Ride is as expected for a vehicle this size: not exactly nimble but extremely capable for off-roading and secure for road driving as well."

Suzanne E., MA (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Lots of leg room"

Anonymous, CA (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Seats are very comfortable. Lots of room inside. Very quiet and smooth ride."

Anonymous, AB (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"I use this car to transport tools, equipment and passengers. I value the ease with which seats can be folded or raised as well as the comfort of the driving position."

J D., NJ (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"comfortable seats. Noisy ride."

Carson S., CA (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Bought it during the Great Recession and got a bargain price."

Anonymous, GA (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Bought vehicle when gas prices high. I paid well below sticker. Vehicle has not had one issue"

Robert W., FL (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Built like a tank. Great engine and transmission combo, shift points are almost ideal. Comfortable ride. Lots of power. Able to bully other drivers (a plus)."

Eugene G., CA (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"I knew it to be an expensive vehicle but thought that was a trade-off for added quality. I was not prepared for the frequency and expense of repairs versus the two Ford Expeditions I owned prior."

ARTHUR M., GA (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Very comfortable ride, great in bad weather, the 4 wheel drive comes in handy."

ROGER W., MO (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"This vehicle albeit 10 years old has almost every feature you could want or need in a SUV. While this was an expensive initial purchase the cost to maintain it has been low which dollar averaging the cost was a smart and wonderful investment."

Anonymous, NC (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"I was surprised how well it pulled my trailer"

Dieter P., AZ (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"tough vehicle, no repairs except for tires and brakes and battery, tremendously reliable."

W K., CA (2008 Toyota Sequoia)

"Strong, well built SUV. Plenty of power. Very roomy and comfortable interior. Excellent drive train integration of engine and transmission. Not so good mileage. Minimal long term maintenance."

Eugene G., CA (2008 Toyota Sequoia)
