Welcome to Consumer Reports.

We’re so glad to have you as a member. You now have access to benefits that can help you choose right, be safe and stay informed.
The Toyota Sienna affords a comfortable ride and a smooth, energetic powertrain returning respectable fuel economy. Expect 20 mpg overall from the front-wheel-drive version. If you need an all-wheel-drive minivan in this model year, Sienna is your only choice. Be apprised however, those four-driven wheels sacrifice one mpg and dictate run-flat tires.

What Owners Say

CD player

“The CD player stopped working in the 37 month of ownership, 20,000 miles. The dealer has not been supportive, claiming that they had no employee trained to address the problem, and their only solution was for us to give them $1,640 to replace the radio unit”

Chris L., SC (2014 Toyota Sienna LE 3.5-L V6)

“Their was a fan noise coming from the dash. CD player had to be replaced”

Todd J., WA (2014 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

“CD Player quit working. Took Toyota over 6 weeks to replace the CD Player. After 4 trips to the dealership where we were called in for an appointment and then told they didn't have it in stock it was finally fixed. Toyota did nothing to compensate”

Peter R., GA (2014 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)
Display screen difficult to see

“NY State law requires that headlights be on when windshield wipers turned on. When headlights are on (except for dark night,). When we switch headlights on, the display darkens to point it's unreadable. Actually, *every aspect* of the radio, GPS, phone voice instruction, etc, sucks!!”

Roger D., NY (2014 Toyota Sienna SE 3.5-L V6)

“The screen is not only impossible to see in the daytime, causing distraction, it is overall a huge pain to use. I would rather have "old school" knobs and buttons for selecting audio and changing settings. The touch screen has to be touched very firmly to even respond and there are too many menus to get to simple selections while driving. Knobs and buttons were so much more to the point and simple to figure out”

Anonymous, ID (2014 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

Anonymous, NJ (2014 Toyota Sienna LE 3.5-L V6)

“Have iPhone with Verizon. Phone connection to Bluetooth often gets dropped or will not connect. No one at dealer, Apple or Verizon ever able to solve problem”

Anonymous, NJ (2014 Toyota Sienna LE 3.5-L V6)

“The Bluetooth firmware does not connect automatically with our phones, and we need to reconnect it manually every time we want to use it. It's a significant hassle that would be easy for Toyota to fix”

Benjamin R., WI (2014 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)
Radio

“Had to have complete radio, CD, steering control replaced. First it went blank occasionally, then no finger controls worked , then no picture for back up camera”

Anonymous, FL (2014 Toyota Sienna L 3.5-L V6)

“radio is impossible to tune safely whille driving. Other than volume, all the controls require looking at the screen and then pushing buttons displayed on the screen. We have laws against texting while driving, but the car manufactures are allowed”

Anonymous, WA (2014 Toyota Sienna SE 3.5-L V6)

“The display brightness would vary in the first radio. A fan or something was running in the second one even when the van was turned off”

Anonymous, OK (2014 Toyota Sienna Limited 3.5-L V6)

“changing radio stations is very inconvinent. You have to hit too many screen buttons and the screen is impossible to see in normal day light. Very bad design”

Dave R., WI (2014 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:GEAR POSITION INDICATION (PRNDL)
Jul 08 2014
If the transmission shift cable separates while the vehicle is being driven, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, despite selecting the 'PARK' position, the transmission may not be in 'PARK.' If the vehicle is not in the 'PARK' position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
Summary:
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2014 Sienna vehicles manufactured June 17, 2014, through June 24, 2014. The affected vehicles have a transmission shift control cable whose protective cable sleeve may have been damaged during assembly. This could cause the control cable to bind or separate during gear shift operation causing incorrect gear selection. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 102, "Transmission Shift Lever Sequence, Starter Interlock, and Transmission Braking Effect."
What should you do:
Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the transmission shift control cable, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began in early August 2014. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.
