The Toyota Sienna delivers a comfortable ride and a smooth, energetic powertrain returning respectable fuel economy. Expect 20 mpg overall from the front-wheel-drive version. If you need all-wheel-drive in this model year Sienna is the only choice. However, those four-driven wheels sacrifice one mpg and dictate run-flat tires. Handling falls short of being agile or engaging, even with the sporty SE version.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2015 Toyota Sienna owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Backup or other camera/sensors

“The blind spot monitor malfunctioned and had to be replaced. It was covered by the warranty”

Anonymous, MI (2015 Toyota Sienna Limited 3.5-L V6)

“Camera somehow got moved. Took it to dealer and they said it couldn't be replaced. Camera is still out of alignment”

Anonymous, TN (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

“Software issue. Radio and navigation would freeze, then eventually reboot. Unsafe when it happened while navigating in an unfamiliar area”

Anonymous, NC (2015 Toyota Sienna Limited 3.5-L V6)
Display screen goes blank

“Entire electronic screen appeared to short out. Software patch fixed it”

Anonymous, WI (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

“The engine system would intermittently lock up and reboot. Took it in 3 times. A software update seems to have fixed it. Sound quality from the handsfree phone interface is terrible”

Lester J., CA (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

“After driving for 30 minutes or more while using the factory GPS the screen would freeze. After a brief self restart the screen would continue to malfunction”

Ryan A., FL (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

“Shortly after starting the car (usually after it sat overnight), the entire screen would go blank, shut down, and reboot. The dealership concluded that it was a communication issue with the iPhone we had it paired with. They updated the system and it hasn't happened since then”

Anonymous, IL (2015 Toyota Sienna LE 3.5-L V6)

“Display is suppose to show miles per gallon as I drive. It goes from 9 to 99 m.p.g. in seconds. Screen goes blank for weeks and then reappears”

Anonymous, NJ (2015 Toyota Sienna LE 3.5-L V6)
External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

“First, it is not user friendly -very difficult to use and if the owner does not have a smart phone it is useless. Audio inputs do not always connect. Preset stations disappear. Generally it is unreliable and very difficult to use. Perhaps if I was 50 years younger it would be a different story”

George R., FL (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

“Screen freeze, GPS freeze. After a few minutes, total system would reboot. The entire entune, screen, navigation system was replaced and there has not been an issue since”

Beverly D., NY (2015 Toyota Sienna SE 3.5-L V6)

“Reboots when driving, just when you need it most”

Lawrence P., TX (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

“Please see my previous comment”

Ryan A., FL (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

“Would not let me complete the destination on several locations at various times”

Anonymous, NH (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

“Was not working consistently, required a software update”

Joseph Z., MI (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

“Not user friendly. Requires individual manual input. Would prefer a way to transfer data from other devices. Once a destination is set, guidance is acceptable”

George R., FL (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

“It rebooted itself during usages while driving, entered information was lost, caused big confusions. Also the GIS database needs improvement. I could not enter my own home address and expect it to guide me home. I always had to use substitute of near by landmarks”

Anonymous, NY (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

“confusing”

Anonymous, MA (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

“Poor interface resulting in callers not hearing very well at all, with much static and many times inability to understand the conversation. Been back to Toyota several times, with no improvement. Been told it is an inherent problem on the minivans”

Gary M., IL (2015 Toyota Sienna Limited 3.5-L V6)

“Sometimes it doesn't pair easily...or at all”

Anonymous, MA (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)
Radio

“The satellite radio has very poor reception and blanks out very often everyday. Toyota is unable to resolve this issue without keeping the car for several days for more extensive testing”

Anonymous, FL (2015 Toyota Sienna Limited 3.5-L V6)

“The radio will randomly power off”

Christopher M., CA (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

“The radio was showing accessory off and on intermittently for no apparent reason”

Anonymous, MI (2015 Toyota Sienna Unsure 3.5-L V6)
Rear entertainment system (e.g., DVD player, rear screen)

“System would not read DVD's or Blu-Ray discs. Had to take it dealer and they got it working again”

Anonymous, TN (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)
Voice control commands

“Voice recognition is poor at best frustrating and distracting the driver. Most options can't be used in motion making the system useless. Toyota states it is for safety, but I believe it make sit less safe; a passenger cant use the system easy”

James G., MA (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

“Unbelievably bad voice recognition. Asking to navigate to addresses in Portland, Oregon (where I live) routinely return results in Missouri or Florida. The voice recognition is essentially worthless -- dealership has had no clue when I seek help”

Anonymous, OR (2015 Toyota Sienna SE 3.5-L V6)

Allan R., WI (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

“Dealer addressed problems”

Anonymous, FL (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

“The passenger seat belts rattle on side of car. They need a holder like the highlander has. Door has a rattle in it. Headrest rattles”

Anonymous, WA (2015 Toyota Sienna Limited 3.5-L V6)

“Power sliding doors chattered in their tracks. The dealership fixed the problem but it took a number of tries to narrow down what was happening. Also center row seats sqeaked on their tracks. This was more easily remedied but it requires repeated attention to keep the noises at bay”

Benjamin J., CA (2015 Toyota Sienna LE 3.5-L V6)

“Sliding door internal rattle”

Anonymous, SC (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

Anonymous, VA (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

“The driver side rear door has this rattling sound when driving around 60 mph or above. The dealer doesn't seem to get it, have to take it again and show it to them. The body integrity seems to be an issue. Also there are lots of squeaks and noises from the seats etc inside”

Anonymous, TX (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

“Just a noisy vehicle, way noisier than my 2005 Sienna. Especially apparent when riding in the second row. I have never ridden in the third row”

Anonymous, NC (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

“Driver's side mirror whistling”

W D., QC (2015 Toyota Sienna LE 3.5-L V6)

Jerome G., TX (2015 Toyota Sienna Limited 3.5-L V6)

“There is a catch that holds the sliding doors back after you have opened it. It releases when you close the door. Catch wasn't catching and if you were in the process of getting in or out you got chopped/hit with the door”

Anonymous, OH (2015 Toyota Sienna Limited 3.5-L V6)

“Recall for unexpected opening. Interim only to-date”

Anonymous, FL (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)

Anonymous, ON (2015 Toyota Sienna SE 3.5-L V6)

“Sliding doors operate and vibrate badly. Doors don't track well and that causes wind. Pose and water leakage”

David S., CA (2015 Toyota Sienna Limited 3.5-L V6)

“Doors appear to struggle to have enough power to close under power. Driver side door now gets about 3/4 closed and then stops and reverses. No impediments in track or jams can be detected. Door then has to be forced closed or assisted while it moves. Understand there is a recall if the door would remain latched if it closed in this manner. Very disconcerting for such a new vehicle”

Anonymous, MI (2015 Toyota Sienna Unsure 3.5-L V6)
Clock

“Clock display disappeared from flat panel display. Took Toyota 3 months to solve the problem. It was fixed by replacing the integrated clock radio info assembly. Toyota reliability is a myth. In addition, factory Michelin tires are worn out at less than 30000 miles”

William S., MI (2015 Toyota Sienna LE 3.5-L V6)

First vehicle I've ever owned that considered strut leakage normal. Independent repair shops like AAA say its not normal and if not addressed would not pass state inspection. Very hard to get dealer to acknowledge problem. Think Toyota got cheap if struts can leak at @26k-33k miles”

Anonymous, PA (2015 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5-L V6)
Steering linkage (includes rack and pinion)

“Clicking sounds nearby steering wheel/power steering motor. Asked dealership to check and fix. They did replacement of columns and lubes parts. The problem still persists. I'm kinda sure that Toyota should start investigate the reliability to their steering motor and linkages”
